~ Razor |
Jake "Razor" Clawson is one of the two titular main protagonists (alongside Chance "T-Bone" Furlong) of SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron. He serves as the weapons systems operator of the Turbokat.
He is voiced by Barry Gordon, who also voices Donatello from the 1987 series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Appearance[]
Unlike Chance, Jake is skinny and average size. His fur is golden brown.
Personality[]
Personality-wise, Jake, like Chance, is carefree, confident, courageous, loyal, and friendly. He is also the smarter and more athletic of the two, using his genius intellect to create all the weapons the SWAT Kats use during their heroic exploits and martial arts skills to use them. He keeps this up even when under the guise of "Razor". However, unlike Chance, he is far more cautious and not much of a risk-taker, something Chance likes to push him to do.
Background[]
Not much is known about Razor's past prior to his dismissal from the Enforcers.
One day, Jake and Chance were chasing after Dark Kat as Enforcers, and thanks to Chance's superior piloting, Jake was able to lock a target on Dark Kat's ship. Both were ready to shoot down the evil villain but their superior, Enforcers commander Ulysses Feral, told the two to stand down and allow him to take Dark Kat alone. Seeing the stupidity of Feral's plan, Jake and Chance decided to rebel against orders and take the shot. However, Feral used his wing to tip theirs, causing Jake to miss Dark Kat and Chance to spiral out of control and crash right into the new Enforcer Headquarters. Needless to say, Dark Kat escaped thanks to Feral's interference.
“ | Feral: This is Feral. Fall back, you two. I'll handle Dark Kat. Chance: Negative, Commander Feral! We already have our missiles locked! It's our tag! Feral: I'm ordering you to back off! Chance: I repeat, sir, we've got a lock! (Feral clips their fighter with his own, sending Chance and Jake into an uncontrollable spin out of the sky) Jake: We're outta the game, Chance. We gotta eject! (Chance and Jake eject and parachute to safety, but their fighter crashes headlong into the rooftop structure of Enforcer Headquarters, destroying it in a huge fireball that draws Feral's attention before he realizes the distraction cost him sight of Dark Kat) Feral: Huh?! Dark Kat's gone! All because of those two young hotshots! (Feral, Chance, and Jake stand outside Enforcer Headquarters at street level as they look up at the destruction to the rooftop portion of the building from the crash of Chance and Jake's fighter) Chance: Heck of a loss, Jake... Jake: Monumental disaster, Chance... Feral: I'm glad you both agree, because this is the last act of vandalism you will ever perform on this city. Chance: It was our tag, Commander. None of this would have happened if you hadn't interfered, sir. Feral: That's it! You're off the force! Both of you! Jake: Suits us! Chance: Who needs this crud anyway? (Both of them take off their helmets and toss them back at Feral's feet as they storm off in disgust) Feral: Just a minute. I said you're off the force, but not off the hook. There's still the matter of paying for this building. And that's what you two are going to be doing for a long, long time. |

~ The events that give birth to the SWAT Kats |
While he was okay, Feral took his anger out on Jake and Chance and dismissed them as Enforcers. He then sent them to work at the local salvage garage to pay off the damages Feral caused. Still, Jake and Chance wouldn't have it, using the parts far the salvage yard, they created the powerful Turbokat jet and many more vehicles. Jake created many weapons from the scrap and the two became the SWAT Kats.
Trivia[]
- A running gag in the series is Callie Briggs' affection for him over Chance. He makes a note of liking said attention which confuses/infuriates Chance. This affection also spreads through time as her medieval ancestor Queen Callista also prefers him over Chance which amazed him and Chance.
