Gotta keep fighting, never stop. What I try to live by. Maybe if I'd been younger, I could have been like you. Always wanted to be a hero.

~ James Gordon
Commissioner James W. "Jim" Gordon is one of the supporting characters from DC Animated Universe. He is the police commissioner and Barbara Gordon's father. He is one of Batman's main allies from the TV series Batman: The Animated Series and New Batman Adventures, and he sometimes helps him during his missions.
Gordon first appears helping Batman and Robin stop the Joker on Christmas Eve. He later appears in charge of the investigation about the poisoning of Harvey Dent. He assigned Renée Montoya to guard Dent's room at the hospital and Harvey Bullock to interrogate the staff of the Rose Café.
When Batman started operating in Gotham, Gordon was the only one willing to trust the Dark Knight, to the point that he defended Batman from Detective Bullock's accusations, even when all the evidence pointed Batman as the responsible of several crimes. However, Gordon was proven correct when Batman captured the real responsible, Man-Bat.
Shortly after, Gordon was witness of the hearing from Internal Affairs, concerning a bust gone wrong. Bullock, Montoya and a rookie were involved and suspended for failing to capture the criminals. Gordon reinstated them back to the force once the criminals where captured and the money recovered.
Some time later, Gordon organized a successful raid to capture a great faction of Thorne's gang under Harvey Dent's instructions. However, Gordon was forced to stop Dent from attacking one of the suspects after Dent lost his temper.
Personality[]
Gordon was the brave and determined Police Commissioner of Gotham City and one of Batman's longest-standing allies. Additionally, he is shown to be compassionate toward his daughter, Barbara. After an incident with Scarecrow, Barbara decides to come clean with her father, Commissioner Gordon, about being Batgirl. Before she can tell him, however, he interrupts her and explains that while he can't approve of what she does he's still proud of her in a way that heavily suggests he knows she is Batgirl.
Gordon commanded immense respect and loyalty from his officers, including Harvey Bullock and Renee Montoya, though he often had to contend with Bullock's distrust of Batman.
Over many cases, he and Batman shared information and formed a strong friendship. Their respect for each other was equal: Gordon often felt that Gotham City would fall apart without Batman, while Batman felt that the city needed someone like Gordon watching over it "24 hours a day".
Abilities[]
Gordon is shown to be an expert marksman, demonstrating both precision and accuracy with his revolver at a shooting range.
Trivia[]
Gordon meets Batman for a cup of coffee at midnight every New Years Eve to celebrate surviving another year of Gotham. Batman always manages to finish his drink and leave payment, even though Gordon would get the tab for both of them.
