James King is the main protagonist in 2015 buddy comedy film Get Hard. James is portrayed by Will Ferrell who also portrayed Buddy (Elf) and Detective Allen Gamble.
Biography[]
Earlier life[]
Before the story, James started as a rich hedge fund manger working for Martin Barrow. James was engaged to Barrow's beautiful daughter, Alissa, who was secretly a gold-digger. After day of work, where made the company $28 million and Martin made him his partner, he met with his car washer, Darnell Lewis, in a parking lot, falsely assuming he was a mugger because he is black. After telling Darnell how he became successful, James only pays Darnell 2 dollars as a tip.
Framed and Prison Sentence[]
At his engagement party, Alissa gave James an electric guitar and had John Mayer perform at the party, where James and him played duet together. However, during the performance the FBI showed up and James was arrested for embezzlement and fraud, even though James claimed he was innocent. James was then advised by his lawyer Peter and Martin plea guilty during his trial, as it will get only one year in prison, but James refused as he believed that the jury would see that was he was innocent and he would be exonerated. At his trail he was confronted by angry protestors who blamed James for lost of their money and he was found guilty and sentence 10 years in San Quentin, which will begin 30 days so he can get assets together. He is placed under house arrest and his assets are frozen. Martin assured James he would have investigators find out who framed him. Over the course of the next 5 days of being under house arrest, James panics and cuts off his ankle monitor off and drove to the country club to meet Alissa. After he showed up at the country club in disguise, James talk to about his plan to leave the country to Mexico but Alissa refuses and breaks up with him. Then US Marshalls show to arrest James, he tries to leave the Country Club in his disguise but the Marshalls see through his disguise and arrest him.
