Biography[]
Background[]
James Montgomery Falsworth was born on January 2nd, 1914 in Birmingham, England to unnamed parents, and would join the British Armed Forces presumably before the start of World War II. He would reach the rank of Major and became a member of the 3rd Independent Parachute Brigade, and was eventually captured by HYDRA in 1943.
Captain America: The First Avenger[]
Falsworth was sent to Austria to work in HYDRA's weapons facility, where he met fellow POWs Bucky Barnes, Timothy "Dum Dum" Dugan, Gabe Jones, Jim Morita, and Jacques Dernier. The group were freed by Captain America, who decided to save the American forces after learning that Bucky was reported missing in action. Fighting against the HYDRA soldiers at the facility, Falsworth helped Dugan control a tank while Jones translated due to his knowledge of German. Afterward, Falsworth and his allies walked to a United States base in Italy, and cheered on Rogers for his heroics.
After escaping from the facility, Falsworth was chosen to be recruited into the Howling Commandos, a special elite unit formed to help Captain America stop HYDRA. He agreed to join the unit, and later helped Rogers assault the Red Skull's fortress to stop his plan in attacking the United States. The mission was a success, but Rogers presumably died after he crashed into the ice to stop the Valkyrie from reaching America. Mourning the loss of his leader, Falsworth would raise his glass to honor the sacrifice of Bucky and Rogers alongside his teammates. At an unknown point in time during the war, he would be awarded for his bravery, and was given the rank of Brigadier.
Captain America: Super Soldier[]
In the non-canon tie-in video game Captain America: Super Soldier, Falsworth appears as a supporting character who is captured by Dr. Arnim Zola. The doctor plans on draining Captain America's blood to re-create Dr. Erskine's formula, and have Falsworth become one of HYDRA's assassins. The plan was stopped by Rogers, and Falsworth continued to help his team leader fight off HYDRA.
Legacy[]
Despite his death following the war, Falsworth was remembered for his heroics in a memorial created to honor Captain America and the Howling Commandos.
Trivia[]
- He received the Order of Burma, Africa Star, Defence Medal, and the War Medal.
- Unlike his comic counterpart, he doesn't become the superhero "Union Jack".
- The comic book character's name was referenced in Agent Carter, with Dum Dum Dugan attempting to give Peggy Carter the nickname "Miss Union Jack".
