Biography[]

Jamie Mitchell was a young member of the famous Mitchell Family whose parents, Charlie and Lynne, passed away prior to his 16th birthday. Following his father's death, Jamie's uncle Billy Mitchell became his guardian and start regularly abusing him. This soon brought the attention of Jamie's godfather Phil Mitchell, who ended up taking Jamie under his wing in 1998 to stop Billy from hurting him anymore; Jamie moved in with Phil and his mother at Albert Square in Walford.

It was then Jamie became Phil's surrogate son after the latter's son Ben left Walford with his mother Kathy Beale. As such, Phil and his brother Grant gave Jamie protection when Billy moved in the square as well - although Jamie would eventually stand up to Billy and overpower him in a confrontation between them. This continued even when Grant left the village in 1999 after he and Phil drove in the River Thames during their heist in ripping off gangsters.

By 2000, Jamie had been building a relationship with local resident Sonia Jackson. They faced a number of setbacks when Jamie first lost his virginity to troublemaker Janine Butcher and briefly slept with newly-arrived Zoe Slater, before later finding out from Sonia that he is not the father of her child Chole - the father's baby is actually Jamie's best-friend Martin Fowler. Enraged, Jamie confronted Martin during Christmas 2000 until he was restrained by Martin's older brother Mark Fowler. Despite these events, however, Jamie and Sonia continued to love each other throughout their relationship. Jamie also sparked friendships with both Sonia's brother Robbie Jackson and fellow colleague Garry Hobbs.

In 2001, when Phil gets shot by an unknown assailant, Jamie is determined to find out who the culprit was. This is when he begins feuding with Phil's two archenemies, Steve Owen and Dan Sullivan, as he believes one of them to be responsible for Phil's shooting. He first suspects Dan after the latter begins extorting money from him and Phil, but later begins to assume that Steve is the culprit upon recounting that Steve had recently framed Jamie's friend Matthew Rose for the murder of Steve's ex-girlfriend Saskia Duncan - which Steve himself had committed. However, Phil's shooter is later revealed to be his ex-girlfriend Lisa Shaw - though Jamie doesn't know about this. Jamie soon gets dragged into Phil's plan to frame Dan as the shooter and implicate Steve as an accomplice, which works successfully at first until Dan is later found not guilty; he would later get revenge on Phil and Steve by kidnapping their common lover Mel Healy, also Steve's wife, for a £200,000 ransom.

Towards the end of the year, Jamie learns that Phil is the father of Lisa's baby Louise - but is urged by Lisa not to tell Phil about it and let him believe that Mark is the child's father since Mark and Lisa have formed a romantic bond between them. Jamie reluctantly agrees due to him growing uncomfortable with Phil's aggressive nature. On New Year's Day 2002, however, Phil learns the truth and confronts Jamie for not telling him. He then disowns Jamie and begins to reject his appeals for a second chance, but relents after Steve gets killed-off in the first anniversary of Phil's shooting.

By then, Jamie's conflict with Billy has improved ever since Jamie learned that Billy had been abused in an orphanage in the past. Billy allows Jamie to move in with him after Phil kicked him out of the house. Moreover, Jamie supports Billy in his marriage prospects with his love interest Little Mo Slater and also squares up against her abusive husband Trevor Morgan at one point. Jamie later witnesses Trevor's death in a house explosion that also killed Tom Banks, the boyfriend of Phil and Grant's lover Sharon Watts.

In 2002, Jamie's companionship with Phil deteriorates again when he allows Lisa to flee Walford with Louise after her marriage with Mark collapsed. When Phil discovers what Lisa had done, he accuses Sonia of helping her and goes to attack her when Jamie comes to her defense and admits that he was the one who helped Lisa get away with Louise in the first place. Phil responds by brutally attacking Jamie, beating him up until Sonia is forced to admit to Lisa's whereabouts. Phil leaves to reclaim Louise, while Sonia helps nurse Jamie back to health.

When Phil returns, he begins hassling Jamie and declares that he is no longer part of the family. Jamie often stands up to Phil and helps Sonia with her efforts to get Phil arrested for his treatment towards Lisa. But they fail and Phil continues to resent Jamie, even when Jamie later rescues Phil's mother Peggy from a mugging and reclaims her purse. Afterwards, Jamie proposes to Sonia and plans to get her flowers. But then he comes across a speeding car driven by Martin and is run over. Jamie is hospitalized and both Phil and Sonia put their differences aside to support his recovery. However, they are devastated when it becomes clear that Jamie's condition has worsen and he will inevitably die from his injuries. Phil blames Martin for what has happened, but Sonia tells Phil that he is just as much to blame given how badly he treated Jamie over the recent months.

On Christmas 2002, Jamie makes amends with Billy and supports his wedding to Little Mo - with Billy apologizing to Jamie for all the times he mistreated him in the past. Phil eventually is convinced to visit Jamie in his deathbed and also apologizes for the way he treated him. Then Sonia goes to visit Jamie, and they talk about what their wedding would've been liked - with Jamie bringing up his mother, Grant's late wife Tiffany Mitchell, and Sonia's distant relative Ethel Skinner being amongst the attendees. Jamie then kisses Sonia after they express their love for each other, shortly before Jamie then dies when his heart monitor starts beeping and the doctors fail to revive him - much to the aguish of both Phil and Sonia respectively.

In 2003, Jamie's funeral takes place with Phil and Sonia attending along with the rest of their families; Phil's sister Sam later helps Peggy comfort Phil over the loss, while Sonia receives support from both her grandfather Jim Branning and his wife Dot Cotton over the loss of her true lover.
