If not for Liu Kang, I'd still be under the Dragon King's spell killing the people I've decided to protect.
~ Jax Brigg's biography in Mortal Kombat Deception

Major Jackson "Jax" Briggs is one of the main protagonists of the Mortal Kombat franchise. He is a Special Forces commander with cybernetic enhancements, the commanding officer of the Outer World Investigation Agency and the partner and best friend of Sonya Blade.

He was portrayed by John Parrish in Mortal Kombat II and 3, and voiced by Ed Boon in MK II and Mortal Kombat 4, Craig J. Harris in Special Forces and Deadly Alliance and Simeon Norfleet in Shaolin Monks and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

History[]

Mortal Kombat: Special Forces[]

Mortal Kombat II[]

After Sonya sent a distress signal after chasing Kano to the Mortal Kombat tournament, Jax went after and finds Johnny Cage and interrogates him, not believing his story. Jax later received a message from Sonya which confirmed Johnny's story. Jax clashed against Kintaro after Johnny was being attacked at his commercial shoot, and held his own, until Kung Lao saved him.

After the fight, Jax decides to go into Outworld to look for Sonya, joining Raiden, Liu Kang, Johnny, Kung Lao, and Sub-Zero. He manages to free Sonya and capture Kano, only for him to escape back to Outworld. He attempted to notify the government about Kano's whereabouts, unfortunately, the people are yet to be convinced.

Mortal Kombat III[]

Jax donned cybernetic enhancements on his arms, and found himself facing an invasion from Outworld, which he and Sonya had feared. Jax aided his fellow champions against Outworld's invasion. In his ending, Jax was the one to destroy Shao Kahn's scheme of merging Earthrealm,

Jax would be a founder of the Outworld Investigation Agency, and becomes the leader of the first expedition to other Realms.

Mortal Kombat IV[]

While Sonya was tracking down Jarek, Jax called her back, due to finding strange dimensional disturbances, which turned out to be caused by Shinnok's return and invasion of the Realms. Jax found that Sonya and the other Earthrealm warriors had taken the fight to Shinnok in Edenia, and thus joined with Raiden to join the battle. He and Sonya forced Jarek to work with them against the Army of Darkness.

After Jarek resisted arrest and attempted to kill Sonya, Jax would then kill Jarek by tossing him off of the cliff. He and Sonya also rescued the cyborg Cyrax, who had begun to regain his humanity. Using the technology of the OIA, Jax and Sonya were able to restore his humanity, and he joined them as an agent.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance[]

Several years later, when the Deadly Alliance rose to power, Jax sent his allies Kenshi Takahashi and Cyrax into Outworld. As it turned out, one of their agents, Hsu Hao was a Red Dragon double agent, and destroyed the OIA base with a miniature nuclear bomb, and Jax vowed revenge. Jax joined Raiden and his allies, and later tracked down Hsu Hao and killed him. Sadly, while confronting the Deadly Alliance, as revealed in Deception, Jax and several other warriors were killed by the Tarkatan Horde.

Mortal Kombat: Deception[]

Jax and his fellow deceased warriors were revived by Onaga the Dragon King as his mind controlled slaves. However, Jax and the others would be freed by the ghost of Liu Kang and Ermac, and he was left deeply remorseful for his actions in service to the Dragon King. In his non canon ending, Jax was the one who killed Onaga, fuelled by his rage.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon[]

Jax would revive the OIA and climb it's ranks, later replacing his arms with his cybernetics, He and Sonya led the Special Forces against Sektor's Tekunin clan. While he was not seen in the Konquest mode, Jax led a team to search for any survivors after Sonya took out the Tekunin Warship. Jax and his team were captured, and he was fitted with a mind controlling neural chip by Sektor, but escaped before it could be activated.

Later Jax decided to join the Forces of Light in the battle of Armageddon. As he critically injured Quan Chi, Shao Kahn took him down. In his non canon ending, Jax defeated Blaze, and his energy caused Jax's cybernetics to expand and turn him into a true cyborg. It was here he became aware of the chip, and went onto defeat Sektor, taking control of the Tekunin, leaving the Special Forces. Sadly, as seen in MK9's prologue, Jax was seen dead with a spear impaled through his chest.
