Jemima is first seen as a secondary character in "The Tale of Tom Kitten", in which she is shown not to like Tom Kitten and his sisters, Moppet and Mittens because they are chaotic. At one point, she, her sister-in-law Rebekkah, and (who may be Rebekkah's husband), the sole male of the trio, Mr. Drake Puddle-Duck, who could be Jemima's brother, but it is unknown. When, on the garden wall, the kittens lose their clothes, Jemima puts on one of the kittens' pinafores and a tucker on her head. The three ducks then take off wearing the kittens' clothes, and when they go into a pond, the clothes all come off because there are no buttons, and they look for them ever since. |

Now, in the next book, Jemima tries to hide her eggs so she can hatch them, but they are always found and cooked. Rebekkah tries discouraging her from hatching her own eggs due to the farmer's wife forbidding it, but instead of giving up, Jemima, being a simpleton, decides to leave the farm.
Jemima goes off to the woods and meets the Foxy-Whiskered Gentleman, and lays her eggs (nine of them) in a shed full of feathers, using them for a nest. Much later, one day, she is sent off to get sage, thyme, mint and parsley from a garden, and two onions from a kitchen in a house where Kep lives. She explains her problem to him and the location to where this "gentleman" was. Once she gets back with the herbs, the Foxy-Whiskered Gentleman exposes his true colors by snatching the herbs and preparing the omelette, but Kep protects her while the two foxhound puppies fight the fox, who retreats, leaving his clothes behind. Although Jemima is safe, the hungry foxhounds eat her eggs, much to her sorrow. She is then escorted home crying. Once again, she lays eggs, but only manages to hatch four of them.
In the original British version, Jemima is voiced by Sue Pollard, while in the American version of "The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends", she is voiced by Sandra Dickinson.
