Heroine Overview

Jennifer "Jenny" Foxworth is the tritagonist from Oliver & Company. She is the pet owner of Oliver and Georgette.

She is voiced by Natalie Gregory and Myhanh Tran as singing.

Background[]

Jenny Foxworth is a slender 7-turned-8-year-old girl with blue eyes and short red hair that she mostly wears in a half updo. Throughout the movie, she wears four different outfits. At first, she wears a tartan blue and white school uniform when going to school. Then, she wears her usual outfit consisting of a sleeved sky blue turtleneck, white skirt, periwinkle tights, and sneakers. Later, when searching for Oliver at night, she wears a yellow raincoat. On her birthday, she wears a red dress and head tie. At one point, she wears pink pajamas when going to bed.

Personality[]

At first, Jenny appears lonely because of her parents being away, but gains happiness as she spends time with Oliver after adopting him. After learning that Oliver had been "catnapped," she is visibly worried and upset.

She is even willing to do whatever it takes to get him back. She is courteous, bright, caring, helpful, kind, and friendly.

History[]

With her parents having left New York for a business trip around Europe for an unknown period of time, Jenny is left in the care of her family's driver and butler, Winston. One day, in her family's limousine, Jenny is first seen reading some letters she received from her mother to Winston as the latter drives her home from school, saying that her parents left Paris for a conference in Rome. However, after reading the rest of the letters, Jenny is saddened when she learns that her parents won't make it home in time for her 8th birthday as promised since they are staying a little longer than expected despite Winston's best efforts to comfort her, cheer her up, and make her feel better.

Then, when a dog named Einstein deliberately runs headfirst into the fender of the car while another dog named Francis plays the part of the dog hit as a distraction, Jenny is told to stay inside while Winston goes out to investigate the source of the problem without noticing another dog named Tito and a cat later named Oliver sneaking in to steal the car's radio. Then, Jenny notices Oliver in the car and opens one of the windows for a closer look, which spooks Oliver a little up to a point where he accidentally slips on the ignition keys, which causes the car to go haywire and send Tito "flying" out the window while Oliver remains trapped in some of the wires that Tito disconnected while trying to steal the limo's radio for Fagin to pawn for cash. Taking pity on Oliver, Jenny comes to his aid and releases him from the wire still wrapped around his paw as Winston returns to check up on her before they drive away with Oliver still inside.

Back at her mansion, having grown attached to Oliver, Jenny decides to adopt him but Winston is against it since she is his responsibility, they already have a dog named Georgette, and they have to wait for her parents' approval.

Later on, Jenny prepares a special meal for Oliver in the kitchen, having inadvertently caused a mess in the process; much to Winston's minor shock. Before Winston can remind her of her parents' approval and after answering the ringing telephone, Jenny finally feeds Oliver a secret recipe she just invented called "Oeufs a la Jenny avec Cocoa Kripies." Jenny becomes excited when she learns from Winston that her parents are in fact, the ones on the phone, knowing this is her chance to see if she can keep Oliver or not as she comes out to talk to them. After Oliver meets Georgette, Jenny comes in and informs Georgette the good news about her parents having approved with the decision of keeping Oliver while assuming that both she and Oliver are going to be the "best of friends", a statement which Georgette finds rather amusing; given her vanity, ego, and recent animosity of Oliver.

Later, Jenny prepares for her piano lessons while playing with Oliver until she is reminded by Winston. As Jenny begins to practice, Oliver joins along by playing a discordant note; much to her amusement. When she continues practicing, Jenny sings "Good Company" as both she and Oliver begin to bond; much to Georgette's further envy, anger, and animosity of Oliver.

Then, with Winston accompanying them, Jenny and Oliver spend the rest of the day having fun at Central Park: riding in a small boat in the lake, playing with fences, greeting people they pass by, eating strawberry ice cream, riding in a horse carriage, and finally, buying Oliver's things with his name on them in a shop including his bowl and most important of all, his new collar with his name and the address inscribed on it. As a sign of happiness and gratitude, Jenny receives a few licks and a hug from Oliver. At night, Jenny finishes singing a few notes before she and Oliver go to sleep and bids him good-night with a smile on her face; much to Winston's joy.

The next morning, Jenny goes to school when her bus arrives after bidding both Winston and Oliver good-bye. Later on, when she returns home, Jenny tries to look for Oliver but can't seem to find him anywhere unfortunately. Desperate, Jenny asks Georgette to help her out, which the latter is unlikely to do since she was involved with Oliver's disappearance during Jenny's absence with the help of Oliver's dog friends. Jenny continues searching for Oliver until she finds a note in her mail slot and reads it. Realizing that Oliver has been "kidnapped" for a ransom by an unknown man she has yet to meet named Fagin, Jenny appears devastated as Georgette comes to somewhat comfort her. Mistaking Georgette's snickering for crying, Jenny assumes that Georgette "loved" Oliver too and states that she’s going to get him back; much to Georgette's shock.

At night, having taken Georgette with her, Jenny follows the directions to the rendezvous spot marked on a map drawn and left with the ransom note by Fagin. Jenny fears they're lost but in fact, they have arrived at their point of destination without knowing it. When Jenny and Georgette arrive and meet Fagin, Jenny and Fagin engage in a small conversation. Oblivious to the fact that Fagin's evil boss, Sykes and his dogs, Roscoe and DeSoto are watching them from a distance in his car, when Fagin learns that Jenny is in fact, Oliver's new owner but with very little money in a piggy bank she brought as payment to get Oliver back since her parents are away, Jenny begins to cry, therefore, making Georgette feel bad and so ashamed of herself for what her previous selfish actions have led to and Fagin has a hard time deciding whether to give up the ransom and follow his good heart or not while feeling guilty as he watches Jenny and Georgette leave with great sadness in their eyes.

Finally, Fagin does the right thing, pretends to find Oliver in a box, and returns him to Jenny; much to both his and the latter's joy. Unfortunately, their happiness is cut-short when Sykes, having seen the whole thing, drives straight towards Jenny to make his move, kidnaps her, and throws Oliver out the window. Before driving away back to his warehouse, Sykes tells Fagin to keep his mouth shut and to consider their account closed.

Back at his warehouse, while being tied up to a chair by Sykes in his office, Jenny cries due to being afraid of his growling dogs, to which Sykes begins taunting her as he maliciously jokes about the fact that they only eat when he tells them to. Then, alerted by some noise (actually Oliver, having come along with his dog friends including Georgette to Jenny's rescue, breaking through a window in a football helmet after being launched by Francis with a seesaw), Jenny watches Sykes send his dogs to investigate the source.

Above Sykes' office, Jenny and Sykes are being watched by Oliver and the dogs as Sykes is on the phone with Winston, demanding him to get in touch with Jenny's parents in order to ask about a ransom concerning their daughter. Then, Dodger comes up with another plan on how to distract Sykes and rescue Jenny at the same time. The plan is set with Tito, Francis, and Einstein posing as a pizza delivery guy to lure Sykes away from his office while the others sneak in to help Jenny where Jenny finds herself happily reunited with Oliver. After taking care of their enemies momentarily, Tito and the others safely return and reunite with the rest of the friends back at Sykes' office to save Jenny before locking the door behind them.

When Rita's efforts to chew the ropes off of Jenny prove futile and their enemies are about to return, Dodger, noticing a crane at the top that could help them out, asks Tito to hot-wire it. Confident, convinced otherwise, and less reluctant than before; thanks to Georgette's charm, Tito quickly makes it up to the top where the crane's controls are located in order to operate and send the crane down just as Sykes and his dogs return to find the door locked. Luckily, Jenny and the others are carried up to safety once Tito manages to operate the crane to send it down then back up again just in time before Sykes and his dogs break through the locked door. All goes well as they are being carried away in another direction by the crane until Sykes takes out a fire axe and destroys the crane's controls, which causes everyone to fall and land on a long slide, only to find themselves cornered by their enemies at the end of the slide unfortunately.

Luckily, just when all hope seems lost as Sykes is about to snap his fingers so as to order his dogs to attack again, Fagin arrives in his scooter breaking through a window just in time to save and drive everyone out to safety until Sykes tries to catch up to them in his car. Fagin drives everyone down into a subway station, thinking Sykes won't bother following them any further, but he was wrong, driving like a madman, Sykes pursues them nonetheless. Once they drive into a tunnel with Sykes still in hot pursuit, Sykes' car collides with Fagin's scooter, causing Jenny to fall and land on the hood of his car. When Sykes tries to pull Jenny back in, Oliver jumps in to save her by biting his hand, only for Sykes to throw Oliver in the backseat where he finds himself cornered by Roscoe and DeSoto. Then, Dodger jumps in to rescue Oliver by fighting off and allowing Roscoe to fall to his death on the subway tracks and be electrocuted by the third rail before Oliver comes to Dodger's rescue by scratching and allowing DeSoto to also fall to his death in the same manner when the latter tries to kill Dodger in vain as payback for Roscoe's death. Then, Dodger saves Oliver again just in time before meeting the same fate as well.

On the Brooklyn Bridge, when Jenny calls for Fagin's help, Fagin comes to her aid with Einstein to help make sure he doesn't fall while Tito takes command of the scooter. Suddenly, a train is heard and seen heading their way. When it looks like Sykes has got the upper hand by grabbing Jenny's leg and pulling her back in, Oliver and Dodger arrive just in time to save her by jumping on and fighting Sykes off, thus, enabling Jenny to jump back into Fagin's scooter. Luckily, Tito manages to save everyone at the last minute by driving them up to safety on one of the bridge's cables while Oliver and Dodger stay behind to fight Sykes off. After Sykes throws Dodger and Oliver off, the train approaches and finally collides with Sykes still in his car, thus, killing him and sending both him and his car down into the Hudson River. Then, Tito drives everyone safely back down before Jenny runs out to search for Oliver, only to find a sad Dodger approaching with a supposedly lifeless Oliver in his mouth. At first, everyone thinks he's dead but when Jenny hears a soft meow coming out of Oliver, everyone minus Georgette, still in shock from the chase, quickly rejoices when they see that their little cat friend is still alive. Then, the other dogs begin to befriend Jenny.

The next day, back at Jenny's house, everyone including Fagin and his dogs is celebrating Jenny's 8th birthday. Once the gang has given Jenny birthday presents (garbage actually), to which she is kindly grateful to, it's time for them to go home as Jenny and Fagin bid each other a touching good-bye. In the meantime, in the kitchen, as Winston and Fagin are watching a wrestling match, the phone rings, and it's Jenny's parents, calling Winston to let him know they will be back Stateside in Manhattan within 24 hours, having finished their trip through Europe a little earlier than expected, and Winston replies that Jenny will be so happy to know they are on their way home.

Outside the mansion, after Oliver and the gang bid a fond farewell to each other until the next time they meet, Jenny, Oliver, and Winston watch as Fagin and his dogs head back home in his scooter, meandering their way through the gridlocked Manhattan traffic.

Trivia[]

  • Her birthday is April 23, and her full birthdate is April 23, 1980.
    • However, her birthday in the Disneystrology book is listed as April 27.
  • Jenny is similar to Penny from The Rescuers. In fact, an early idea was for Penny to be in Jenny's role. Also, Jenny rhymes with Penny. They live in New York and get kidnapped by the main antagonist (Jenny, Bill Sykes; Penny, Madame Medusa) who have pets that look alike (in Jenny's case, Roscoe and DeSoto; in Penny's case, Brutus and Nero), but get rescued by animals (Jenny: Oliver, Dodger and his gang/Penny: Bernard, Miss Bianca, Ellie Mae, and the swamp folks). Coincidentally, they share the same animator, Glen Keane.
