Jesse (sometimes spelled Jessie) is a supporting character in Marvel's Transformers comics.

Biography[]

Jesse was introduced in the original miniseries as the girlfriend of Buster Witwicky. She accompanied him and their friend "O" to a drive-in, where Bumblebee inadvertently crashed into their vehicle. Moments later, the Decepticons attacked. As four Autobots transformed to battle their enemies, Buster told Jesse and "O" to run for it while he took Bumblebee to safety. Jesse later learned Buster had befriended the Autobots and was working with them to rescue his father Sparkplug from the Decepticons.

Jesse dealt with Buster's moods over Optimus Prime entrusting the Autobots' Creation Matrix to him. She appeared prominently in Issue #11, where she and Buster went on a cycling trip and picnic. They were interrupted by Bumblebee and Bluestreak, who had been sent to keep an eye on them. They were then attacked by both Laserbeak and the Decepticon automaton Jetfire. Buster was able to gain control of the latter using the Matrix and agreed to help the Autobots rescue Optimus Prime.

In the UK-exclusive story "Devastation Derby", Jesse went with Buster on a date to a devastation derby, but he collapsed as a result of the after-effects of his control of the Matrix, which was giving him visions of the future. When Soundwave attacked and the Autobots had their hands full with Devastator, Jesse tried to protect Buster. Soundwave ended up withdrawing and Jesse travelled with Buster and Sparkplug to the Ark, where Optimus Prime shared Buster's vision.

Jesse returned in US Issue #31, where she was among the humans hypnotised by the Decepticons' car washes which forced people to donate their fuel to the Decepticons. She was freed by Buster, and together they managed to free the other brainwashed humans and turn them against the Decepticons.

She made her final appearance in Issue #47. With Buster a captive of the Decepticons, Jesse agreed to help Blaster infiltrate their island base, which they were using as a holiday resort. Jesse and Blaster found the cave where Buster was held but were unable to free him, although they did return with intelligence on the Decepticons' search for the Underbase.

Trivia[]

  • An early Marvel colouring book depicted Buster and Jesse as the parents of Daniel Witwicky, usually the son of Buster's brother Spike.
