Jesse is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Yara) of the 2020 video game The Last of Us Part II, serving as the tritagonist of Ellie's storyline and a supporting antagonist in Abby's storyline.
He is a friend of Ellie and ex-boyfriend of Dina, and is the leader of the patrol groups for the Jackson settlement. When Ellie decides to travel to Seattle to get revenge on Abby and her group, he travels there to help her before wanting to return to Jackson after learning of Dina's pregnancy. He would be killed by Abby during her vendetta against Ellie for killing her friends, but Dina would give birth to his son JJ.
He was voiced and motion-captured by Stephen Chang.
Biography[]
Background[]
Not much is known about Jesse's past, but he and his family would travel to Jackson, Wyoming where they accepted in its settlement by Tommy and Maria Miller. Jesse would begin a relationship with Dina, which was described as being on and off, which resulted in the two later breaking up permanently. Once Tommy's brother Joel and his adoptive daughter Ellie arrived, Jesse befriended the two, and Joel would often give guidance to Jesse on patrolling. Jesse would develop skills during his time as a patrolmen for the Jackson community, and later became the leader of the patrol groups.
The Last of Us Part II[]
The day after the party incident, Jesse went to Ellie's residence to awake her for patrols, and asked why was she upset that Joel defended her against Seth. Leading the patrols outside of the community with Ellie and Dina, Jesse arrived to Joel and Tommy's lookout, and discovered that they were not there. He would find Ellie and Dina in Eugene Lindon's basement, and told them that Joel and Tommy never arrived at their outpost. Jesse and Dina worked together to search for the two, and later found an unconscious Ellie and Tommy, and Joel's beaten corpse. Returning to Jackson, Jesse learned that Joel was killed a woman named Abby Anderson, and that Tommy and Ellie had left the community to travel towards Seattle to get revenge.
Wanting to help his friends, Jesse snuck out of Jackson and headed towards Seattle, but was stopped briefly due to a snowstorm in Oregon. Once he arrived in Seattle, he encountered the Washington Liberation Front and battled them in Hillcrest, and was injured during his fight against the faction. Jesse then reunited with Ellie, who thought it was Tommy that was attacking the W.L.F. in Hillcrest, and the two escaped to the abandoned movie theater where Jesse reunited with Dina. Despite the reunion, Dina decided to not tell him of her pregnancy with his child, telling him that she was suffering from a "sickness" and told Ellie that she would tell him another time. He would rest while Ellie decided to go out the next day, as she had got information that Abby's friend Nora Harris was resided at a hospital.
Seeing Dina's sickness getting worse, Jesse deduced that she was pregnant, and asked Ellie that once they found Tommy, they should leave Seattle. The two then left to find Tommy, and when Ellie wanted to continue her pursuit of Abby, Jesse decided to go find Tommy and managed to reach him at the marina. Jesse and Tommy then found Ellie at the marina, where she had killed Abby's friends Owen Moore and Mel, and was left in shock due to Mel being pregnant. Going back to the abandoned move theater, Jesse conversated with Ellie until they heard Tommy cry out in pain. Jesse and Ellie went out to the lobby, which resulted in the former being killed by Abby with a shot in the face.
Legacy[]
Jesses' death was mourned by his parents and friends, and Dina would give birth to his son JJ after returning to the Jackson community. Though his death was avenged since Abby was left alive by Ellie, he would live through his friends and Dina telling stories about him to their son.
