Jessica Drew, also known as Spider-Woman, is a major antagonist in Sony Pictures Animation's 24th full length feature film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and will return in its upcoming sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. A pregnant African-American Spider-Woman from an alternate universe who is a member of the Spider-Society and rides a motorcycle. Unlike most Spider-People, Drew does not maintain a secret identity.

She is voiced by Issa Rae, who also portrayed President Barbie in the 2023 film Barbie.

Biography[]

Jessica Drew is a prominent commanding member of the Spider-Society, sharing several canon events such as the spider bite, the inciting loss, and failing to save someone. However, Jessica proved to be as stalwart as the others as she continued her vigilantism in her native reality as Spider-Woman. In her world, Jessica had done away with her secret identity to be a publicly recognized superhero. She eventually found love and got married. During her first pregnancy, she and her husband elected to wait and be surprised by the baby's sex at birth. At some point, Jessica encountered Miguel O'Hara amid the early days of his multiversal policing mission, proving herself capable an operative to be among Miguel's inner circle. She also met Peter B. Parker of Earth-616 and both would witness firsthand the devastation of breaking a canon event.

Personality[]

Jessica is shown to have a confident air about her while being strict with her subordinate agents, being a perfect mentor and heroine. She presents a maternal and sympathetic nature, as she recruited Gwen due to her situation.

Unlike Jessica Drew's original incarnation she seems to be African American instead.
- Similar matter when Electro, Shocker and Shriek are also African American.
Jessica is the second Spider character to be black after Miles Morales.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse and Barbie, both of which Issa Rae starred in, came out in 2023.
