Ji-yeong (Korean: 지영), also referred to as Player 240, is a supporting character in the first season of the South Korean Netflix drama show Squid Game. Ji-yeong is a player of the 2020 Squid Game who joined Seong Gi-hun and Cho Sang-woo's team and befriended Kang Sae-byeok.
She was portrayed by Lee Yoo-mi.

Ji-yeong is an easygoing and absolutely fearless girl. Despite being in a death game, she is always calm and never once shows any sign of being worried about dying. She joins the Squid Game for having nowhere to go and seems to have no real goal for her own life. Before being invited by Kang Sae-byeok to join her team, Ji-yeong is seen sitting by herself and is completely unconcerned about looking for the teammates that she needs to play the third game. She seems the type of person who distances herself from others, remaining quiet and alone if no one approaches her.
Despite usually not being the talkative, Ji-yeong is intelligent and will at times voice her opinions, especially regarding religion. It is implied that Ji-yeong has no belief in God or religion because of her experience with her abusive father, who was a pastor. As an atheist, Ji-yeong is bothered by the absurdity of Player 244 being grateful for the death of their adversary team, saying that God chose to sacrifice them for their team to live. Ji-yeong immediately points out that this isn't true as their team had to kill their adversaries to win the game, so 244 is just not admitting his guilt in this murder. She is also annoyed as she notes that 244 will thank his God for still being alive but not to his teammates Cho Sang-woo and Oh Il-nam, the real people who saved them during the Tug-of-War game. During their team planning, Ji-yeong points out that it is ironic that 244 is the one who suggests them to attack a weak team after lights go out, despite him being a follower of a pacifist doctrine. The hypocrisy she notes in 244 is something she later reveals to have experienced with her own father, who would preach the peaceful values of his religion, but would abuse his own wife and daughter, then would pray to ask for forgiveness.
Even though she seems disconnected to everything happening in the games, Ji-yeong clearly develops an interest in Sae-byeok after she invited her to join her team before the Tug-of War, and the two girls eventually form a close friendship. Following this game, Ji-yeong asks for her name and despite Sae-byeok refusing to reply and telling Ji-yeong to leave her alone, the two girls are often seen together afterwards. Whenever the team is reunited, Ji-yeong is always sitting next to Sae-byeok and helps her when the group decides to set up a barricade. Before the fourth game, as players should find a game partner, Ji-yeong follows Sae-byeok when she leaves to look for someone to play with her. Ji-yeong asks Sae-byeok to be her partner, and they admit that they invited each other to play during the games because they both feel like others would not want to play with them. As they feel the same, Ji-yeong and Sae-byeok are more comfortable in sticking together than playing with anyone else.
With the reveal that they will have play against each other in the Marbles game, Ji-yeong is surprised and says that it is a "tragedy", but even then she shows no signs of fear. She is the one who proposes them to spend their time talking and sharing their secrets instead of playing. Ji-yeong shows to have grown fond of Sae-byeok and they truly bond during their talk. Ji-yeong even talks about them going to Jeju Island together, before sadly recalling that one of them is going to die in the Marbles game. This is the only moment in which Ji-yeong is shown to be truly excited about something, to the point she even forgets a couple of times that they are still in the Squid Game. Every time she recalls that they will never be able to leave together, Ji-yeong pauses and apologizes, as if she is really upset by this fact. The two girls tragically bond so that one will die.
After purposely losing at the Marbles game, Ji-yeong confesses that there is nothing waiting for her outside the games. Ji-yeong prefers to die to let a person like Sae-byeok live, because Sae-byeok has a family and a good reason to win the prize money. Ji-yeong says that someone who has a good reason should be the one to survive, believing her sacrifice is the right thing to do. This indicates that, although she thinks her life is worthless, she will not die for someone who is not worthy of it. Having grown to care for Sae-byeok and having genuinely enjoyed their time together, she ultimately sacrifices herself wishing her friend to survive and make it out of the games alive. In her last moments, Ji-yeong thanks Sae-byeok and even dies with a smile, grateful for the time she spent with her friend.
