Biography[]
Jiang came from a family of pirates from the Earth Kingdom who owns the Flying Wolfbat ship and sailing through the seas. They're also stealing loots so they could sell them for their profits. Despite this, she wasn't ashamed of it because it made her stronger. When the Fire Nation invaded her territory, she lead her crew to fight them all and they succeed in getting rid of the soldiers. The rest of the crew swore to fight against the Fire Nation until the war is over. She believed that the Earth Kingdom army aren't worth to be trusted because they've abandoned those outside the walls of Ba Sing Se, so that's why she and her crew went to steal the boxes full of medicines to deliver a small village for several sick people as well as the Earth Kingdom soldier uniforms.
When they reached for a village at shore, the Fire Nation tried to steal their ship and the pirates prevent them from doing so, but they have to get pass through the Fire Nation which is why they need a waterbender they could recruit. They also stored their stolen goods and puts them all under the care of their associate Tu. While searching for a waterbender, they found a boy who claimed to be one, but Jiang found out he's a fraud and fed him to a saber-tooth moose lion in retaliation.
One day, Jiang and her crew first met Katara at the alleyway after she was separated from her gang. She admits of becoming impressed at Katara for defending herself from a Fire Nation soldier and tells her that she needs a waterbender to get pass through the Fire Nation. Katara then admits herself of a waterbender and proves it otherwise by bending the water from Jiang's pouch and redirect it to one of her men, impressing them as result. After Katara was recruited into Jiang's crew, they stop by Tu's storage house for the cargo they stolen for them to deliver while Katara intimidates Tu into letting her go with the pirates. When the pirate crew are preparing to load their cargo to the ship, Katara asked why the boxes are marked with Earth Kingdom seal, but Jiang refused to answer and gave her an Earth Kingdom soldier uniform for the disguise to get pass the Fire Nation soldiers. However, Katara becomes uncomfortable of what the pirates are up to.

Jiang allowed Katara to go on board and tells her to be prepared when she's ready, while also adding the cargo they stolen are so important for her crew to deliver. After the captain finished inspecting the ship, he orders his soldier to attack them, which forced Katara and Jiang's crew to get to the Flying Wolfbat. While they tried to escape from the Fire Nation, a patrol ship launched a flaming boulder onto their ship, causing it began to sink. While Jiang's crew are trying to save the cargo, Katara is forced to go after the patrol ship alone and pushed the solders off to the ocean. Jiang and her crew were surrounded by the Fire Nation soldiers until Katara saved them by steering the patrol boat to the soldiers, impressing them as they cheered and thanking her for this.
