Dr. Jo Thornton Harding is a meteorologist and the main protagonist of the 1996 disaster film, Twister.
She is played by Helen Hunt.
Character Biography[]
At the beginning of the film, she and her family seek shelter in a storm cellar, but her father was killed after the F5 tornado strikes. Years later, she is reunited with her estranged husband Bill. She and Bill chase down several tornadoes by using a big device called DOROTHY. However, the rival Storm Chasing team led by Dr. Jonas Miller also chased tornadoes (until he was killed towards the final battle). In the end, she and Bill anchor themselves to pipes and let the F5 tornado die out. By the end of the film, she and Bill decided to run their own lab and rekindle their marriage with a kiss.

- Laura Dern, Nicole Kidman, Rene Russo, Meg Ryan, and Famke Janseen were all considered for the role of Jo Harding before Helen Hunt was cast.
- According to the development of Twisters, Jo was set to die in the sequel, it's currently unknown on if that that will follow through by a potential role for Helen to reprise but given how it is very likely Bill Harding will be absent in the film, due to Bill Paxton's passing, that his character may have died somewhere in between for Jo to join with him.
