Joaquin Torres (later known as Falcon) is a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is a supporting character in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and set to appear in Captain America: Brave New World.
He is portrayed by Danny Ramirez.
Biography[]
Surviving the Snap[]
In 2018, Torres survived the Snap and spent the following five years witnessing the hardships it caused firsthand.
Rescue of Captain Vassant[]
In 2024, Torres joined forces with his new ally, Sam Wilson, to rescue Vassant, who had been kidnapped by the terrorist group LAF. The mission aimed to prevent the kidnappers from crossing the Tunisian border, where U.S. operations would be prohibited. While driving a Humvee, Torres provided ground support for Wilson and witnessed the mission's success. Overcome with excitement, he leapt into the air with joy.
Discussing Flag Smashers[]
Afterward, Torres and Wilson visited a café in Tunisia, where Torres offered to help fix Redwing. However, Wilson assured him he could handle it. During their conversation, two locals approached to thank Wilson for his role in bringing about the Blip. Torres then brought up a new terrorist group called the Flag Smashers, who believed life was better during the Blip, and showed Wilson their symbol on his phone. He also mentioned conspiracy theories circulating online, claiming Steve Rogers was secretly living on the moon. Wilson advised Torres not to believe everything he read online. As Wilson prepared to leave, Torres asked why he was heading to Washington, D.C., prompting Wilson to smile and jokingly reply, "Moon stuff."
Robbery of Gasel Bank[]
Determined to investigate further, Torres traveled to Switzerland to track down the Flag Smashers. There, he encountered a group of people putting on masks. Curious, he donned one himself, only to realize he had stumbled into the middle of a bank robbery orchestrated by the very terrorist organization he was searching for.
When a local policeman tried to arrest the masked Torres, he quickly evaded capture. As the chaos unfolded, Torres recorded footage of a Flag Smasher using superhuman strength to knock another officer aside. Discarding his mask, Torres drew his handgun and confronted the terrorist, attempting to make an arrest. However, the terrorist overpowered him with ease, knocking him unconscious.
After regaining consciousness, Torres texted and video-called Sam Wilson, briefing him on the encounter and providing an update on the Flag Smashers.
Heading to Munich[]
Upon returning to the United States at the USAF base, Torres reunited with Sam Wilson and walked with him toward an aircraft, asking for his thoughts on the new Captain America.
Later, Torres accompanied Wilson and Bucky Barnes on a military aircraft to Germany. He watched in amazement as Wilson leaped from the plane, only to be even more surprised when Barnes followed suit—without any flight gear.
Helping Sam Wilson[]
At Sam Wilson's request to investigate a woman named Donya Madani, Torres later informed him via phone call that she had passed away and had been living in Riga, Latvia. This discovery prompted Wilson to travel there in search of clues.
In Riga, Torres reunited with Wilson and Bucky Barnes at the former Latvian GRC Resettlement Camp. He greeted Barnes, humorously noting that he had his sleeve back after ripping it off during the mission in Munich. After Barnes departed, Torres updated Wilson on Karli Morgenthau’s situation, revealing that she had gone into hiding following John Walker’s brutal murder of one of her teammates. Torres also showed interest in Wilson’s wings during their conversation.
As Wilson walked away with Captain America's shield, he symbolically passed on the Falcon mantle to Torres, leaving him the EXO-7 Falcon suit.
Two months later, Torres video-called Wilson with crucial intel: the Flag Smashers were planning an attack in New York City. Wilson deduced their target to be the New York Global Repatriation Council building and thanked Torres for the valuable information.
New Mantle[]
Still serving with the USAF, Torres watched from his laptop as his friend, now the new Captain America, delivered an inspiring speech in his Captain America suit following the defeat of the Flag Smashers. Torres smiled, feeling both proud and motivated by the powerful message.
Trivia[]
- Just as Sam was the successor of Steve Rogers/Captain America, Torres is a successor as Sam/Falcon himself.
