Joe Baker is the main protagonist of the Resident Evil 7 DLC End of Zoe. He is a former war veteran who lived in Dulvey Parish in Louisiana. He is the older brother of Jack Baker, who ran the family ranch until his death in 2017, and uncle of both Lucas and Zoe. Thanks to his isolation from Jack’s family far away, he survived Eveline’s influences and infections. He is determined to save his niece Zoe Baker from her impending death, as she is the only family member he has left.
In his childhood, Joe often fought and bullied his younger brother, Jack, having broken his nose and clotheslining him to the swamp. He fought against the Molded using nothing but his bare fists, stake bombs, spears, and the AMG 78.
He was voiced by Gage Maverik and Kōsei Hirota in Japanese.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Joe Baker was born at some time before Jack to an unnamed Mr. Baker and Grandma Baker, being their firstborn son. He is the older brother to Jack Baker, and the two would often get into fighters where Joe bullied Jack during their childhood, with Joe noting that one time he clothes-lined Jack in the swamp. Both Joe and Jack would serve in the United States Military, with earned the the with peak conditions and combat training. Jack would later start of a family of his own and run the family estate, and Joe decided to live as a hermit in the swamps nearby. Due to this, Joe wasn't affected by Eveline's influence, and presumably adapted to killing the Molded around the swamps, as evidenced by the decapitated Molded head he carries during End of Zoe.
End of Zoe[]
In 2017, Joe would encounter Blue Umbrella soldiers quarantining the swamps from the Molded, and attacked two soldiers when they found his niece, Zoe, unconscious. Once he gained information on how to cure Zoe from one of the soldiers, Joe went through the swamps and collected it. He returned to Zoe and gave her the cure, but the captured soldier told Joe that it was only a dose, and volunteered to help him retrieve a full dose. However, the soldier was killed by a swamp creature, forcing Joe to take Zoe somewhere else. Joe took Zoe to a boathouse to rest while he went after the dosage, encountering the swamp creature once again, realizing that the monster's regeneration factor was greater than the other molded.
Joe managed to temporarily defeat the swamp creature and collect the cure, but when returning to Zoe at the boathouse, the monster took off with her. Joe then battled more molded and confronted the swamp creature once again, but when ripping off his mask, it was revealed that it the monster was a mutated Jack. Shocked, Joe was taken off guard and knocked unconscious by Jack, whom proceeded to place him in a coffin and escape with Zoe. Joe managed to escape from the coffin, and heard Blue Umbrella speaking of Jack attacking them at the main house. Joe made his way to the main house, having gained the AMG-78 power gauntlet, and defeated his brother, killing him for good. Joe gave Zoe the full dose, as Chris Redfield and his team arrived at the main house. Joe later comforted Zoe that her family still loved her even though they are infected, and it's assumed that Joe and Zoe stayed at the family estate or was taken to safety by Blue Umbrella.
Skills and Abilities[]
Being in the Marines with Jack, Joe is a highly capable and resourceful survivor, so much so that he can absolutely handle himself in the desolate swamps quarrantined by BSAA.
Unlike most of the Resident Evil protagonists, Joe prefers to take on monsters with his bare hands, and employs most of his military training and physique to good use. Despite being a regular human, Joe's peak human condition over the top (though not as much as Chris, who could smash a boulder with his bare hands), to the point where he can smash through frail barriers, take out Molded with his fists, and beat Jack multiple times. In addition, Joe has enough speed to keep up with his nimble brother and even dodge his clumsy attacks, and the durability to even withstand tentacles that can kill Blue Umbrella soldiers with ease (and also eat centipedes whose poison is not actually enough to kill a human like Joe). He also has the stamina to keep on fighting Jack without even showing signs of tiredness even when Jack broke his guard, and is capable of crafting medicines, sneak up on Molded without risking detection, and throw makeshift spears that can instantly kill weaker Molded.
In addition to receiving the AMG-78 power gauntlet, Joe has some degree of superhuman strength in his left hand, allowing him to take out Molded and smash through fortified barriers with ease at the glove's full charge. Even with his preference of going fist to fist with Molded, Joe still retains his marksmanship received by the Marine Corps. Despite living in the swamps for decades, Joe actually has enough prowess to interact with advanced technology like the AMG-78.

Trivia[]
- Joe has apparently not kept up to date on the events surrounding Umrbella since 1998; when their secert bio weapon development was made public. Not having access to the news, Joe didn't know the innocent civilian level employees turned what remained of the company into a paramilitary.
- He has poor judgement calls, something the Blue Umbrella soldier frankly tells him; Joe punched him out without even allowing an explanation prior. To be fair, Joe was unarmed and surprised two armed men; he wanted to be safe rather than regret a fatal head on fight.
