John Constantine is a major protagonist in the DC Animated Movie Universe and a supporting protagonist in the Tomorrowverse. He is also Zatanna's boyfriend and possible fiancé.
He is voiced by Matt Ryan.
Personality[]
Unlike most of the heroes of the DC Animated Movie Universe franchise, John Constantine actually has more like an anti-heroic personality. However, Constantine seems to have a lower success rate than the League, as Zatanna claims he is guilty of "A hundred screw-ups. Costing lives and souls."
Even though he is strongly on the pure good side, just like Damian Wayne, John most often shows a heart of disrepectfulness, even when he himself is in trouble/danger. He is a perfectionist at manipulating his friends to get what he wants to achieve. And because of this, John spoils his relationship with Zatanna, Jason Blood, and Chas Chandler; although, eventually he and Zatanna start dating monogamously.
He is bisexual, yet even more so has a wide range of tastes, as he had sexual relationships with humans, demons, fairies, nymphs, and even creatures like King Shark or abstract constructs like the personification of Los Angeles.
John can be a terrible friend, as he was present for his friend, Richie, suffering the consequence of their risky explorations with magic cancer, yet instead of supporting him, John cut off contact out of guilt, which drove Richie to such desperation that he ended up causing the deaths of innocent people and almost allowing Destiny to conquer the world (although, that aspect was unintended), hoping to save himself.
As a youth, his ambition surpassed his knowledge, thus when finding his mentor Alex Logue was leading an evil cult and was attempting to sacrifice his own daughter, Astra, Constantine summoned a demon to prevent it, however, he couldn't specify which demon, leading to Nergal appearing; Nergal slaughtered the cultists, but also dragged Astra to Hell for "payment." Constantine would remain haunted by this event for the rest of his life, and it is implied to be the reason his addictive personality habits became so excessive.
John appeared to be a traitor too as of seen when he escapes instead of saving his fiancée Zatanna when she was crying out John's name for help when she was being eaten alive by the Paradooms; an event that traumatises and confuses him, as despite his selfishness, he was never a coward. Ultimately it's revealed that Batman had a contingency in case the Apokolips raid failed, thus had Zatanna cast a compulsion spell on Constantine that made him seemingly abandon the team, as the spell required him to survive for the subsequent assault. Constantine held a grudge against Batman, though quickly got over it since he encouraged a Flashpoint that would erase every deed, good or bad, anyway.
Constantine is in other words, capable of being loyal, like when he talked with Zatanna about Felix Faust and arranged Jason to be buried at a knight's home. Despite of all his disrespectful attitude and hedonistic habits, Constantine sacrifices himself for his friends without any consideration. However, he was also a pragmatist, therefore took the best or seemingly only chance to succeed, even though the cost of that triumph would make it a Pyrrhic victory at best.
After experiencing grief of watching projections of his loved ones mutated, rend, and killed, and Prometheus-like mutilation and healing of his flesh for an untold number of years, Constantine appears to be a broken man. He appears to have lost his wit and strong-will. He is subservient to the Spectre, but his heralding of doom appears to be without hope of the warning actually helping, rather believing he is merely announcing yet another destroyed existence.
His suffering from the Spectre also left him amnesiac, however, after Green Lantern unwittingly helps him remember who he is due to their shared first name, Constantine regains a semblance of his old self and cockiness. When his memory is completely restored, he expressed sincere regret in his hand in turning the Flash into a weapon to kill Darkseid, as he made him an unwitting accomplice in the act. Darkseid's death wasn't something he regretted, but did feel responsible for the chaos unleashed by the New God's death.
His sense of responsibility wasn't completely absent before the Crisis, but it became his most prominent characteristic because of it; when everyone passed through the Miracle Machine to be reborn on the nascent monoverse Earth, Constantine remained on the Monitor's satellite. When the Spectre questioned him about it, he acknowledged that he is fated to Hell, with no chance at a new life because of his actions, though brooding that Hell couldn't be worse than what he had already experienced; while sarcastic, he accepted his inevitable judgement, and paid no resistance towards it, which appeared to impress the Wrath of God, therefore Constantine may have already suffered enough and displayed enough growth that his fate won't be as dark as he expected.
Appearances[]
DC Animated Movie Universe[]
Justice League Dark[]
John Constantine serves as one of the main protagonists of this film. Random people start hallucinating strangers and their own family members as monsters, so try to kill them; while the initial individuals were stopped, some successfully murdered their to-them demons. Due to no evidence of cranial trauma, significant mental illness, or cerebral hemorrhaging, it is determined that the cause of the hallucinations was magic.
The Justice League were too dangerous if taken under the phenomena, therefore Batman alone seeks masters of the mystic arts, reuniting with his old friend Zatanna, while meeting Deadman (who had been seeking him for help, too), Jason Blood whom shares his body with Etrigan the Demon, and the wild card John Constantine. This unusual team pursue the cause of the hallucinations, discovering a conspiracy closer to them than they originally realised.
Constantine: City of Demons[]
John Constantine is the main progatonist. He reconnects with former best friend and former fellow practitioner of the dark arts, Chas Chandler, as to help him rescue his daughter, Trish, from a demon operating in Los Angeles.
Justice League Dark : Apokolips War[]
John Constantine returns to the film franchise and serves as one of the three main protagonists (alongside with Raven and Damian Wayne) of this film.
John Constantine was roused from slumber by hearing "remember," which made him question what Zatanna said; she claimed she said "remember," as she wished for him to remember that she loved him, though he cheekily noted it didn't seem in doubt as he awakens the morning after.
Constantine expressed an interest of further activity with Zatanna, but he is blocked by a station wide announcement from Batman, summoning everyone in the Justice League to the Watchtower's hangar bay. Constantine listened with disinterest that became concern as Superman explained the plan to attack Darkseid, while revealing imagery from worlds devastated by the New God. The Flash provided warning about a likely planetary war, referencing the doomed Earth he witnessed during the Flashpoint Paradox; Lex Luthor reasoned that perhaps a deal could be reached with Darkseid. Superman, however, angrily rejected other options, noting that Darkseid's three previous attacks against Earth and his pattern of conquest mean that war is the only option.
Superman explained that Doomsday and Cyborg Superman displayed that Apokolips showed no indication of anything but another invasion. The League are shown data on Parademons, which serve as Darkseid's primary military force; they are noted as formidable, but have weak points that enable swift defeat. While a contingency force, largely made of the Teen Titans, remained on Earth, the primary League invasion travel via their Javelin ships to reach Apokolips. Unfortunately, Darkseid was not only aware of their attack plan, but had a counterattack prepared; the League face a swarm of not Parademons, but the creatures augmented by Doomsday's cells, becoming Paradooms that overwhelmed the Justice League.
Two years later, the Earth is still suffering the occupation sent in retaliation by Darkseid, thus the skies have occasional Parademons or Paradooms flying over the war-torn world. In a pub in London, Constantine is drinking all of the whiskey he can find, while his companion, Etrigan the Demon, wallows at the end of the bar due to depression he felt from the passing of his former soul-bonded, Jason Blood. Clark Kent and Raven enter the pub, successfully locating Constantine, who remained recalcitrant to conversation; Clark reveals his identity as Superman, with the angered Constantine punching him for the failed raid two years ago.
The drunk entertained chat by asking why the raid failed and what happened in the aftermath; Clark explained that unbeknownst to the team at the time, Cyborg's Apokoliptan hardware was accessible by Darkseid, thus always knew what the League was planning. Clark revealed that some, like Constantine, had managed to escape Apokolips, while everyone else was either maimed or killed; Darkseid repaired some to become his enslaved Furies, while he brainwashed Batman to serve as his strategist and right hand for the conquest of Earth. Constantine refused to help for the next attack, which Raven spitefully claimed she expected, since he was a coward; while not disputing it, Constantine revealed how he witnessed Zatanna become swarmed by Paradooms, yet ran away, even though he had faced such horrors before without retreating, thereby doesn't understand why he fled then.
The argument attracted the attention of three passing Parademons, which crash into the pub; Clark is unable to help, since Darkseid injected liquid kryptonite into him that stole his powers, and Raven can't help due to being drained from the endless struggle she is in against her father, Trigon, within the crystal gem prison upon her brow. Etrigan killed one Parademon with a flame belch, while Constantine vanquished the remaining two, though used a spell that made him sober to his irritation.
Constantine invited Clark and Raven to join him in his home in the ruins of Big Ben. The sorcerer relents to listening to their plan and helping if possible. Clark explained that all they needed was a locator spell to find Damian Wayne, which Constantine queried, but quickly dismissed as not caring; using a nearby globe, he enacts the spell that centres on a specific location, Nanda Parbat. Constantine wryly claimed that he will teleport them there, but the spell demands absurdly long periods of standing still, so Raven irritably harnessed what power she could to teleport the group to the mountain range.
They arrive within a fortress belonging to the League of Assassins, and are attacked by ninjas led by Lady Shiva. Constantine and Etrigan handle the brunt, due to Clark's human strength and Raven's frailty; before a blade hit Raven, someone ordered the defenders to stand down. The voice came from Damian, who had now donned the mantle of Ra's al Ghul, leader of the League of Assassins. Damian is angered by Clark's presence, but halted his aggression when Raven asked him to wait and collapsed from exhaustion; Damian carried Raven, while permitting the others to follow.
Damian placed Raven upon one of the beds in a barracks; he asked Constantine if she can cured, which he confirmed as simple, since the removal of Trigon would allow her recovery, but both man and young man note that Trigon's release would destroy what's left of the world. Despite a brief rest, Raven awakened to be stable enough for her to follow Damian as he led her and Clark to show further repercussions of the failed raid; Damian threatened to cut off Constantine's hands if he stole anything, which was to the amusement and respect of Etrigan.
Despite his disdain for Clark, Damian agreed to help in their next raid on Apokolips, with the hope that Batman's brainwashing would break upon seeing his son, or Damian would mercy kill him to spare him from Darkseid's control; Damian changed into his uniform as Robin.
Raven transports the group, now including Robin and his right hand, Lady Shiva, to Stryker's Island Prison outside of Metropolis. While Clark believed his wife, Lois Lane, would be negotiating with the leader of the Suicide Squad, he is startled to see her in a ring, fighting Harley Quinn instead; on the sidelines, Constantine had a short competitive bickering match with Captain Boomerang due to their British and Australian origins, respectively. Lois is able to beat Harley, who then agreed to volunteer the Suicide Squad for the attack against LexCorp Tower, which has the only accessible boom tube that would allow travel to Apokolips.
Heroes and villains discuss the plan, with the primary goal of sabotaging a large generator on Apokolips that would result in a meltdown that would annihilate the planet. They also note three massive mechanical devices that Darkseid sent to specific points around the Earth, which are Planet Reapers, machines that drain a world's molten core and deliver it to Apokolips. Lois explained that they can only attack two of the Reapers, due to lacking personnel to reach all three; however, she hoped that two would be enough to lure the Paradooms from Apokolips, leaving the dark world without total defense.
As two of the Reapers are attacked, it doesn't gather additional defenders from Apokolips. Constantine projected his image at the third Reaper; he provoked Swamp Thing with insults and grudges he held, which successfully lured the protector of the Green. While Swamp Thing was about to depart due to Constantine not actually being present, the sorcerer drew his attention to the Reaper, which made Swamp Thing understand the Green's imminent extinction, therefore he began attacking the machine. With all three Reapers under attack, Batman directed the Paradooms to defend them, thus the heroes and Suicide Squad execute their assault on LexCorp Tower.
While suffering casualties, the team are able to reach the outer doors of the boom tube access, but are deflected by Luthor in one of his warsuits. Robin stabbed his sword into it, yet Luthor only triggered an electrical surge that hurt him, which provoked an enraged response from Raven; she ripped apart the warsuit, and held Luthor in her soul bird's grip, about to kill him, but she is stopped by Clark. Luthor bluntly explained that they need him, as he had been Sleeper, the double agent that had been providing Lois's resistance with information to rebel against Darkseid's two year occupation.
Luthor equipped the team and Squad with kyptonite-based weaponry, since the kryptonian DNA of Paradooms made them susceptible to it, just like Superman. Meanwhile, Raven requested a method of obliteration from Constantine to kill her in case Trigon managed to break his astral bonds; Constantine revealed his possession of an immensely powerful ancient dagger, which he explained would destroy her existence, although he encouraged her to avoid such a fate - yet Raven noted that she is strong, but was prepared for the sacrifice to prevent further calamity.
The groups are divided between invaders for Apokolips, and defenders for the boom tube access on the top floor of LexCorp Tower. When reaching Apokolips, Constantine cast a spell of invisibility that hides the team, although he noted that it was temporary and may not be a guaranteed shield, so they must be careful. Despite caution, footsteps upon water alert Darkseid's Furies, the cybernetic and enslaved Mera, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Starfire, and even Wonder Woman.
Most of the team struggle against the Furies due to the enhanced power from the cybernetics and not wanting to hurt their brainwashed friends; Constantine tries to reason with Wonder Woman, while she deflected his spells. Before he is struck down, Etrigan entered a duel with Wonder Woman; the demon and Amazon seem relatively even, but Diana defeated Etrigan by stabbing his heart and kicking his body into the Firepits, although he died content from facing a worthy adversary. The distraction allowed Constantine to draw the Lasso of Truth to his hands; he enveloped Diana with the Lasso, and used its old magic to help her break free from the indoctrination. Now liberated, Diana volunteered to hold off the other Furies, so that the team can complete their mission.
When the team reach the location of the generator, instead that found a crude apparatus that has a trapped Flash endlessly running on a treadmill that provided, however, it wasn't possible to cause an explosion with such a machine. Even so, Clark - in a warsuit borrowed from Luthor - broke the rotating gyros, allowing them to reach Barry and unhook him from the spinal feeding tubes; in exhaustion, Barry vibrated from overusing his powers, and he pleaded for peace. To allow Barry to sleep, Constantine cast a simple spell that induced slumber, however, as he did it, he read the speedster's mind, which revealed to him the reality of the Flashpoint, and how it made their universe vulnerable to Darkseid in the first place.
Despite troubling revelations, the team commit to the mission, searching the fortress for an alternative solution. They locate Cyborg, who had been fused into the very structure of Apokolips, and was chanting praise for Darkseid. Constantine experimented with techno-magic, which breaks the trance on Cyborg, allowing him to regain his free will; as Cyborg was the source for the control signal of the Furies, the cyborgs are similarly released from their servitude.
Before planning the next step, they are shocked by the arrival of Darkseid and the still brainwashed Batman; Darkseid takes a seat on his throne, commanding Batman to kill the intruders. Robin addressed his father, but Batman condemned him for referring to him as such, spitefully detailing how Talia drugged him to conceive, hoisted the boy upon him, and brainwashed him; Batman labeled Robin as nothing but a burden. While Raven tried to convince Robin that it was Darkseid's words, not Batman's, Robin's emotional state is vulnerable enough that he engaged in a fight against Batman, while the Mobius chair fired upon the rest.
Batman disarmed the sword from Robin, and defeated him; Darkseid ordered Batman to kill his son. However, Batman sees a parallel to his childhood self during the deaths of his parents, which helped remind him of his life and who he really is, thus the brainwashing is cleared. Darkseid angrily orders Batman to kill again, but Batman retort with defiance and throwing the sword into Darkseid's eye, which exploded, although seemingly left him otherwise unharmed. Disappointed yet indifferent, Darkseid fired his omega beams at Batman, but Robin leapt in front of his father, suffering excruciating and fatal burns.
The sight of Robin's horrific injuries traumatises Raven, with her distress allowing Trigon to break the chains in his astral prison; as Trigon's manifestation is imminent, Raven pleaded for Constantine to kill her to prevent the dark god's escape. Constantine summoned the ancient dagger, and sends it towards Raven, however, instead of killing her, it pried the crystal from her forehead, which flew to his hand; Constantine dropped the gem, crushing it underfoot, which manifested a summoning circle, with a spectral Trigon within it. Constantine offered his own magical body to Trigon, so together they could destroy Darkseid.
Trigon, however, crawled down Clark's throat, purging the liquid kryptonite from his body, but also possessing the Kryptonian. Trigon snapped Constantine's neck, then clapped to generate such force it pushed everyone in the chamber, and caught Darkseid's attention. The Old God and New God begin battle.
Constantine awakens into a serene place of picturesque nature, and is greeted by Zatanna. Constantine realised that he was in Heaven, to his surprise, though Zatanna lightly japes that she had to pull some strings. Zatanna apologised, for which he comforts that it was unnecessary since he gets to spend an eternity with her; however, she clarified that she wasn't seeking forgiveness for that. Constantine realised that "rebmemer" was a compulsion spell that Zatanna cast on him that was the cause of his uncharacteristic cowardice during the initial Apokolips raid; Constantine irritably udnerstands that the contingency plan was Batman's, which Zatanna confirmed, since the Dark Knight felt that it was necessary. Even so, Constantine ignored the grudge, until Zatanna explained that more is needed from him; yet he frustratingly noted that he is already dead, so he had already given everything. However, Zatanna corrected that he of all people should know that nothing is certain was destiny called.
Constantine's body is healed and gasped back to life, much to the shock of Cyborg; Constantine angrily berated destiny, as well as telling Batman that he is upset with him. During Constantine's revival, Raven embraced Robin and declared her love for him - without Trigon's influence, her pure emotion unlocked her true powers, restoring her vitality and allowing her to do the same for Robin.
The defenders of LexCorp Tower were close to being overwhelmed, thus the self-destruct was activated. A transmission allowed Lois to apologise to Clark for failing to spend their lives together, and encouraging him to be strong; before the detonation, Lois proclaimed her love, but died as the explosion consumed the entire tower and surrounding region, taking a swarm of Parademons with it. The grief of seeing Lois die allowed Clark to regain control of his body, venting Trigon from his mouth in an incorporeal aether; Clark's emotions allowed him to harness a tiny portion of Trigon's power, which allowed him to conjure his Superman uniform. Darkseid created a sphere to trap Trigon's essence.
When Darkseid went to taunt his godly opponent, he is distracted by Superman, who commenced a violent assault against his archenemy. Meanwhile, on Earth, the Reapers are destroyed, although every attacker died in the process.
Cyborg revealed a possibility of dragging all of the Paradooms back from Earth, then generating a planetary boom tube to banish Apokolips, the creatures, and Darkseid himself. The difficulty of the plan is that it required Darkseid to be distracted, yet no one was willing to leave Superman abandoned with the evil New God. Constantine pondered a new plan, which he and Raven determine was to create a vessel for Trigon, so that he could be the one to distract Darkseid in battle. Constantine and Raven cast a spell that restored Trigon to his own physical existence.
As Darkseid had Superman pinned, he commended his strength, but dismissed it as temporary, but is then blasted away by Trigon; Superman is stunned to see Trigon, who simply demanded that he leave or fight for the right to destroy Darkseid. Trigon greeted Darkseid once again, and declared that their fight will determine which of them will rule and which will serve.
Cyborg transported all Paradooms back to Apokolips, while opening a boom tube for the heroes to escape the dark world's fate. Constantine, though ignorantly, tried to convince Cyborg to download his consciousness on a "mother cube or something," so that he didn't need to die; Cyborg appreciated the sentiment, but explained that it wasn't possible. Constantine offered admiration and respect for Cyborg's sacrifice, then returned through the boom tube to Earth. The last to leave is Raven who shared the first and last positive moment with her father, as Trigon expressed appreciation for the gift of fighting a powerful opponent, and encouraged her to be well out of consideration for her strength.
With Cyborg left alone with the warring deities and armies of monsters, he activated the planetary boom tube; the void pulled in Darkseid, as his escape was prevented by Trigon, and Apokolips shattered into fire and rubble, with it and its creatures falling into nothingness, and the gate closed.
By the ruined Titans Tower, the surviving heroes struggle to come to terms with the two years of tragedy and the cost of the triumph. Batman explained that while the Reapers were destroyed, 31% of the molten core had been removed, thus Earth is still doomed to suffer greater disasters and a billion more deaths before any solution could be planned. Constantine believed that there is only one option, which he discussed with Flash - another Flashpoint. Barry expressed reluctance due to promising his late wife, Iris, that he wouldn't risk reality again; however, Constantine argued that anything would be better than the dire state they currently face.
With great sorrow, Flash acquiesced to the idea, therefore he runs into the Speed Force, triggering a Flashpoint that emanated a white light that expanded to cover everything, with the universe born by a Flashpoint, dying by one, in the gamble of hoping for a better reality that was safe from oblivion.
Constantine: The House of Mystery[]
Constantine is undergoing a casual get together with his friends in the magical world, including Zatanna. However, a nightmarish cycle began that caused his friends to be butchered by demons, turn into demons that butcher him, or any other variation of bodily and psychological mutilation, which looped back to normalcy that is condemned to repeat the slaughter. The architect of Constantine's torture is the Wrath of God, the Spectre, as punishment for orchestrating another Flashpoint that caused consequences that endangered all reality.
Tomorrowverse[]
Green Lantern: Beware My Power[]
An anonymous and broken Constantine lived as a homeless alcoholic. He was assaulted by two criminals, until war veteran John Stewart intervened; while Stewart beat down the criminals, Constantine drunkenly fled, ranting about how the end of the world is imminent.
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One[]
While unnamed in the film, after an eternity of torment from the Spectre - the Wrath of God - Constantine is recruited to pass warnings to doomed realities. As a disheveled, bearded vagabond, Constantine periodically appears throughout time and dimensions to deliver cryptic clues to Barry Allen/The Flash, alluding to the wave of antimatter destroying universes, at the will of some as of yet unintroduced force or entity.
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Two[]
During defense of one of many universal tuning towers, the Green Lantern John Stewart notices an unkempt drifter; Stewart recognises him, while the drifter merely mutters about how it is hopeless to fight the antimatter devastation. The drifter goes to leave through an alley, but he is blocked by Stewart's created wall of solid green light; the drifter places his hand on the wall, conjuring a magic circle that destroys the wall.
Stewart shoots laser bolts at the drifter, and demands to know who he is, while the drifter returns magical blasts, claiming not to know; the drifter yells that the "Green Lantern" needs to be stronger to beat him. However, Stewart retorts that Green Lantern is his job, and his name is John; the utterance of the name reawakens buried memories within the drifter. The drifter recalls his name was also John, afterwards casting a "clean up" spell that restores his youth and previous appearance; while not restored to his former glory, Constantine recovers enough of his mind and sorcery to help fight against the shadow demons.
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three[]
The Monitor's death unleashed billions of years of energy that powered his satellite and surviving multiverse to transport to an extradimensional realm known as the Bleed. Although, it is a temporary solution, since its unstable status causes numerous natural disasters on the Earths.
During the following 8 months on Earth-10, the Legion of Doom led by Lex Luthor had captured the Anti-Monitor's herald, Psycho-Pirate; Luthor had been torturing him for information, as well as to establish contact with the Anti-Monitor. Luthor had been offering alternate Earths to the Anti-Monitor to feign allegiance, yet while the Anti-Monitor could briefly breach the Bleed, it would eventually be pulled back into normal reality; during such attacks, Luthor had been collecting data about the creature to determine a vulnerability.
Luthor realized that the Anti-Monitor still held a weakness to light, but it needed to be an immensely powerful light, greater than a star; as each Earth had brought their own Sun, Luthor explained that Superman should absorb the light from 52 Suns, which would be enough to destroy the Anti-Monitor. Although, breaching its armour was still an issue, but was solved by the appearance of Warworld, which was piloted by Martian Manhunter, with assistance from Adam Strange and Lobo; while Warworld appeared to have been destroyed before the Crisis, it had only been teleported away via Zeta waves.
A team led by Batman locate Constantine in a tavern on a wild west world. Despite Constantine's reluctance to be involved, he agreed to a seance with Dr. Fate, who will send Batman and Constantine into the latter's mind to repair his broken memories and discover what caused the Anti-Monitor's arrival. Batman and Constantine return to the memory of just prior the final Flashpoint; Constantine realises more of what happened when he saw he past self placing a magic sigil on the Flash's back, which his past self claimed was for directions. Batman is confused as they follow the Flash, since it is meant to be Constantine's memories, but the sorcerer clarified that the spell was dark magic and implanted a piece of his soul within it, which was carried by the Flash.
Constantine explained that Darkseid was the personification of evil and was invincible and immortal, however, there was a time when he was still vulnerable, which was when he was in the first year of life as a newborn. Flash traversed Apokolips, with various Parademons appearing to die for no reason. When Flash reached infant Darkseid's crib, he prepared to attack, but couldn't; Batman notes that the Flash couldn't kill in cold blood, yet Constantine agreed.
Constantine explained that Darkseid was a fixed point in time, thus his life would and must exist as long as the universe did, but in his first year of life, he hadn't achieved this state yet; thus, the true nature of Constantine's spell that was the darkest magic that used a slice of his own soul to create an instant death curse, which had been killing Parademons as the Flash merely ran by them, and had already killed infant Darkseid just by Flash being in the room. However, despite being physically vulnerable as a baby, Darkseid was still meant to become a fixed point in time, thereby his death split reality into two, with one in which he still lived and one in which he died - however, the latter continued to fragment into infinitely expanding branches of reality, thus the multiverse.
When Superman was flying to the numerous stars in flux within the same space, he is overtaken by Supergirl, who revealed that she still had Monitor's shared energy that would make her faster, as well as expressing how she feels guilty for causing the crisis to become so dire. Superman tries to reassure her that it was manipulation by Psycho-Pirate from the Anti-Monitor, that killed Monitor, not her, however, she believes that it was only because she allowed them to do it. Captain Atom holds Superman back, making him realise it is too late, as Supergirl had already entered the maelstrom of solar energy, and was charging so much energy that she would likely die no matter what.
The deposed ruler of Warworld, Mongul, had used fear to power the planet, however, that was out of personal preference, since any strong emotion can provide its energy. Martian Manhunter visits Psycho-Pirate, who initially claims to be unable to influence hope on a multiversal scale, but the Martian convinced him to do it all the same. While space-faring heroes delay the Anti-Monitor, Psycho-Pirate unites all hearts throughout the multiverse with hope, which charges the Warworld cannon, firing a colossal beam of energy that burst a large hole through the Anti-Monitor's torso. A supercharged Supergirl flew into the gap and then released 52 Suns of light that obliterated the Anti-Monitor, but the risk was proven correct as she died in process.
Before the remaining participants in the Crisis can properly recover on Monitor's satellite, Batman's group arrived to share what he had learned; Batman revealed the genesis of the multiverse wasn't a natural occurrence, but due to Constantine destroying a fixed point in time that shattered existence. The group realise that the multiverse is inherently unsustainable, with every new branch threatening complete collapse of all things; therefore, it is discovered that the Anti-Monitor was only a cosmic immune response of the universe, erasing Earths to prevent further expansion and multiversal collapse. It is understood that the Anti-Monitor would not be the only immune response, which is proven as 10,000 Anti-Monitors manifest into the Bleed.
Realizing the only solution for any form of survival is a miracle, they plan to locate the device that Brainiac tried to use in the future, which was the Miracle Machine. The Machine was hidden in a pocket dimension, but thanks to Nightshade's dimensional shift powers, with Martian Manhunter's guidance, the Machine is located and brought to the satellite. The Miracle Machine appeared inert, with John Stewart believing it only needed power; he tried to use his Green Lantern ring, but it remained unresponsive to willpower. Constantine points out that magic is the solution, and due to plausibly lethal requirements, he begrudgingly attempted to power the Machine; however, the Machine remained inactive, to the sorcerer's chagrin. Wonder Woman realised it needed godly magic, and thus offers her immortal demi-god life source to power the device; she dissipates into energy, but her energy provided the power that the Miracle Machine required.
The legion of Anti-Monitors send waves of antimatter to gradually clear the Bleed of remaining Earths, and complete the annihilation of the multiverse.
The survivors understand that the solution is to create a new - what Constantine dubbed - monoverse; one reality that will combine every alternate self into a new life, however, with the cost of the memories and lives of those who pass through the Machine's veil into the new singular Earth. The Spectre appeared to witness the events, and clarify the reality of the new reality, including losing all already lost and worlds already erased. With varying levels of reluctance or enthusiasm, everyone passed the veil to become a part of their reborn, yet born, or unborn existences.
Constantine remained on the satellite with the Spectre, who questions him about staying, but Constantine sardonically notes that he knows he is doomed to Hell for inadvertently breaking existence and thus causing countless deaths, although also declared that Hell couldn't be worse than what he had already seen and experienced. The Spectre appeared to offer a comforting remark, then walked away; Constantine followed after him, both seeming to vanish before the antimatter erased the Monitor's satellite.
Upon the new monoverse Earth, on Themiscrya, a young Princess Diana fearlessly balances along a handrail atop of cliff face, to the annoyance of her mother, Queen Hippolyta, whose irritation quickly faded due to her daughter's exuberant innocence. Thus, the Anti-Monitors had successfully erased the multiverse, which prevented the collapse of reality itself, yet at incalculable cost. While Constantine himself may remain in exile under the Spectre's hold.

- Instant Death Curse: A profane spell that used a piece of Constantine's soul as fuel, which would instantly kill anyone around the area, object, or person that the spell is cast upon, until it burns out. It was able to kill the infant Darkseid, a feat that should be impossible.

Trivia[]
- In this version of John Constantine, he is played by Matt Ryan, who also played as Constantine in the 2014 American-Drama series called Constantine. Matt also voiced John in the 2011 American-Mystery series called Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.
- This version of Constantine also appears in Constantine: City of Demons, which may not be an "official" entry of the DCAMU, due to its vastly different tone, content, and disregard of any other DC characters, rather focusing entirely on characters from Hellblazer - the series in which John Constantine was in before DC acquiring the characters.
- If it is an official installment, then Constantine is the franchise's only character to have sex visibly on screen, as he has intercourse with the personification of Los Angeles - called Angela - which shifts shapes during the act, thereby changing from heterosexual to homosexual and back numerous times (which perhaps befits Constantine's bisexuality).
- Although, there was implied intercourse between Talon and Samantha Vanaveer, silhouette of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle in the shower, and the moment before Trigon violated Arella.

- As shown in Constantine: The House of Mystery, he is able to remember the reality before the final Flashpoint, thus being the only one to recall; in fact, the point of the short film wasn't just to show that he remembers, but to show he is now being punished for convincing Flash to do it, as he is sent into endless scenarios that always end in hellish manners by the Spectre.
- Constantine had a hand in ending the DC Animated Movie Universe, as well as the successor Tomorrowverse, and is the only character to remember either (excluding the Spectre, but he is more a cosmic force than person).
