John Doe is one of the many anti-heroic protagonists of Twisted Metal: Black. He is an amnesiac gangster who becomes the 4th driver of the Roadkill.

He is voiced by Adam Segen, who also voiced WarHawk in the same game.

Biography[]

Background[]

Before the events of the game, John have a family and is a FBI Agent. After stopping the explosion from happening, he is arrested by the police and put into the alysum as a criminal.

Black and Dust[]

During his periods inside the cells, John met Calypso as the man shows a picture of him in a well-dressed manner, promising that he win the Twisted Metal event, he would discover who he really once is. Knowing this as a offer he couldn't refuse, John takes his chances and enters the Twisted Metal event.

Defeating every single racers with his Roadkill, John passed out during the battle against the tank. John started to see that he was once a member inside the group of gangters, whose planned to put a bomb to explode within a building. However, John wakes up as he tells that he don't like the man he is turning out to be.

Once he defeat Warhawk, he is given the truth he always have wanted. John is revealed to be a FBI agent who have rushed back inside the building and removed the bomb, like a true hero of humanity. Unfortunately for him, John is now the most wanted invindual in the wanted list, which leads to Calypso firing a shot to his body. John falling down as he lost his sight and knowlegde of his surronding. He remembers now, he have a family that he had always once loved.

John then passed out, dying in a death filled with regrets.

Personality[]

Is it unclear about what was John like before his amnesiac diagnosis. But he seems to he a dedicated cop and a family man. He does many morally questions things to gain as many trusts as possible in order to be able to foil the explosion plan and save the world.

Upon being amnesiac, he becomes uncontrollably violent and keeps questioning himself about his past. He becomes frustatingly anger at everything before attending the contest. After seeing some of his memories from the past, John seems to resent himself, questioning what was he like before.

Knowing his true identity, John appears proud of himself but is quickly filled with guilt upon realizing that he will never be able to meet his loved ones again.

Trivia[]

  • Although John Doe's true name is never revealed, part of it can be seen on his FBI identification card. His signature of his first name looks as though it starts with an "E".
  • Adding to the previous trivia, John Doe's beta name was Ed, likely because the inspiration for John Doe's design was the actor Ed Norton. Particularly his role on the infamous '90s gang film American History X, where he plays the character Derek Vineyard.
  • In the demo version of TM:B, the tattoo on John's arm contained the message, "One race, one country." In the final version of the game, the message is absent due to its connections to White supremacy.
  • In Mr. Grimm's middle cutscene in Twisted Metal (2012), there was a police badge in Calypso's trophy case. It is assumed that it is the same police badge that was given to John Doe before Calypso kills him in his ending.
  • In Agent Stone's middle scene, the terrorist he kills looks identical to John Doe.
  • As Calypso is listed as the second on the Most Wanted list, it can be assumed that number one is Needles Kane.
  • The name "John Doe" is a law enforcement term referring to an individual whose identity is unknown. This hints at his law enforcement background.
  • John is one of the two characters who is affilled with the law enforcements, alongside Agent Stone.
  • John in the cutted contents version of the game appear significantly more moral than his canonical counterpart, seemingly felt guilty for all of what he has done before knowing his true indentity. His appearance also appeared significantly different as well.
