John Doggett is a character in The X-Files television series, and appeared as the main character in season 8 and 9, taking over from protagonist Fox Mulder. He is an agent within the FBI who finds himself assigned to the unit known as the X-Files which deals with unexplained cases. In season 8 his partner is Dana Scully, and in season 9 Monica Reyes.
He is played by Robert Patrick, who is well known for playing the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Jacob Fuller from From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.
Prior to the FBI, Doggett served in the military and later became a police officer. His son was abducted and murdered and the case remained unsolved.
In 2000 Doggett - now an agent for the FBI, is assigned to look into the abduction of Fox Mulder. Unlike Mulder Doggett is a skeptic. He is later assigned to the X-Files permanently and is teamed up with Mulder's partner Dana Scully.
In 2002 Doggett Mulder escape after he was wrongfully convicted of a murder. Both Doggett and Reyes later tracked Mulder and Scully down to New Mexico to warn them that the conspirators have sent helicopters to kill them, which allows the pair of them to escape.
Doggett is absent from the 2008 film The X-Files: I Want to Believe and the 2016 revival series.
