~ Harriman to Kirk. |
John Jason Harriman, Jr was a male human first introduced in the movie Star Trek: Generations. He was most promiment as the first Captain of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-B).
Harriman was portrayed by Alan Ruck, who is perhaps most well known for playing Cameron Frye in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Harriman was the son of John "Blackjack" Harriman. By 2293 he was commanding officer of the newly built Enterprise-B. As a publicity event for the christening of the Enterprise Harriman took the ship out for a trip around the solar system with retired Captain James T. Kirk, Pavel Chekov, and Montgomery Scott on board. Forced to answer a distress call from a ship carrying El-Aurian refugees Harriman went to rescue them even though Enterprise was missing critical components, weapons, and staff. While the Enterprise was able to rescue some of the El-Aurians the attempt ended in disaster as Captain Kirk apparently died in the rescue attempt.
Following the repair of the Enterprise, Harriman was still in command as the Enterprise began regular missions for Starfleet. Despite his rocky start Harriman grew in to his role as Captain, becoming a highly respected Starfleet Captain. When the Excelsior under Captain Hikaru Sulu went on an unauthorized mission to rescue Demora Sulu Harriman stood up to his father and prevented his father from attacking the Enterprise. Harriman was able to talk his father into not pursuing the matter further, but the incident led to a complete breakdown of relations between Harriman and his father. The pair only communicated officially until the elder Harriman's death.
Harriman retained command of the Enterprise until 2311, when he stepped down following the Tomed Incident and the retreat of the Romulan Empire behind its borders. His friend and first officer Demora Sulu succeeded his as Captain of the Enterprise. Soon afterwards Harriman married Amina Sasine. He was still alive in the 2370s. By now an Admiral he had served as the liaison to the corps of engineers.
Trivia[]
