Biography[]

Military Career[]

I almost buried him in Pripyat... With MacMillan.
~ Price to Laswell on Imran Zakhaev.

Jonathan "John" Price was born in the United Kingdom in 1985, but nothing much is known about his early life. When he was sixteen years old, John Price joined the British Army and served for eighteen years, and was one of the youngest cadets to graduate from the Royal Military Academy. He completed the Special Service Commando selection and was "badged" a member of the 22nd Special Air Services, and rose to the rank of lieutenant before the 2000s. During his time as an lieutenant, Price was involved in the assassination attempt on Imran Zakhaev, alongside Captain MacMillan. It's assumed that Zakhaev was injured or killed, but the confirmation is left unknown.

In 2009, Price was in command of SAS Bravo Six team, and was informed of a Russian chemical lab in Urzikstan by Commander "Karim", a leader of the liberation force there. Price was part of the raid on the facility, and saved Farah Karim, her brother Hadir, and the rebels from death. Afterward, Price instructed Farah and Hadir to set up camp in the mountains away from General Roman Barkov and the Russians.

In 2011, Price was promoted to the rank of Captain, and participated in countless missions that required him to stop terrorist, hostage rescues, and capture or kill high-valued targets. Around or before this time, Price met Kate Laswell at a football game so she could get him for an operation, and the two have formed a close professional relationship since then. He works closely with Western intelligence agencies when dealing with high-valued targets, becoming known for his skills and tactics. In addition, Price also knew Nikolai, and considered him an old comrade that he could rely on when he had to go outside the rules. Price also is owed a favor by Kamarov, after an unknown occurrence in Beirut, Lebanon. Before the events of the game, Captain Price worked alongside SAS operative Jacob Thorne, but the latter transferred due to "ethical disagreements".

Encountering Makarov[]

John, we have him! He's in custody. He's not going anywhere. Stand down, Sergeant.
~ Price to Soap, stopping him from killing Makarov in 2019.

In April of 2019, Captain Price worked with Simon "Ghost" Riley and Johnny "Soap" MacTavish to stop the Inner Circle's attack at Verdansk's Acropolis National Arena. During the attack, Price and Soap apprehended the terrorist leader Vladimir Makarov, bringing him to General Shepherd for interrogation. After a bomb was detonated at the arena, Price stopped Soap from executing Makarov for his actions, resulting in the terrorist leader vowing to see them again before being imprisoned in the Zordaya prison complex.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare[]

We get dirty, and the world stays clean. That's the mission.
~ Captain Price to Kyle Garrick.

During an assignment on October 24th, 2019, Captain Price was contacted by Laswell about a failed CIA mission to secure Russian chemical gas in Verdansk. Price informs Laswell that he knows about it, and agreed to help with the potential of the gas being deployed across the world, and travels to London.

The next day, Price went to Central London when terrorist affiliated with AL-Qatala launched an attack in Piccadilly Circus. Price met with the Metropolitan Police Service and CTSFO units during the attack, and helped them secure the area and protect civilians who were being held hostage. Captain Price saved Sergeant Kyle Garrick from being killed by a terrorist, and the two go through the building to rescue the hostages. Together they find a group of hostages who have bombs strapped on them, and when one of the hostages who has the wires on him is close to detonation, Price throws him over the ledge and saves Garrick from the explosion.

Afterward, Price was informed by Garrick that the Metropolitan Police had actionable intelligence of the terror cell, but couldn't act due in order to keep the public clam. Price allowed Garrick to release his frustrations on being told what to do, and wanting to take the gloves off to stop terrorist. Now with the intel and seeing that Garrick wants to stop the one's responsible, Price took Garrick in to Bravo Six.

Two days after the terrorist attack, Price led SAS units to clear a terror cell in a townhouse in north London. During the mission, Price ordered Garrick to clear the house, and to watch for friendlies, and stopped one cell member from detonating a bomb in the attic. Garrick agrees that they made the right call to stop her, and they gain the intelligence and location of Al-Qatala leader Omar "The Wolf" Sulaiman.

The intelligence allowed the U.S. Marines and CIA officer Alex to capture "The Wolf" in Urzikstan, and had him brought to the U.S. Embassy for interrogation for the missing chemical gas, and have him extracted. However, Al-Qatala's second-in-command, Jamal "The Butcher" Rahar, rallied with his forces to take back The Wolf. Price and Garrick were informed of this, and were inbound to extract The Wolf, but were shot down by an RPG as the Al-Qatala breached the Embassy. As the Al-Qatala killed innocent civilians, Price held Garrick back from the Butcher's threats, and they went through the Embassy.

Price and Garrick managed to clear the way to the Embassy safe room where then met with Alex and Farah, and led them and their allied units to the Ambassador's residence. While Price and the others were leaving, Garrick helped the Ambassador's assistant, Stacy Davidson, escape from the terrorist to their location. Outnumbered by the Al-Qatala, Price, Garrick, Alex, Farah, Hadir, and the remaining Marines held back their forces, but were unable to stop the terrorist group from breaking The Wolf out.

Due to the situation, the group decided to divide so that they could stop the Wolf from escaping, as Price and Garrick cleared terror cell with Farah's forces, Farah and Alex went to the Highway of Death to intercept him. Price and Garrick arrived to Farah's location after Hadir used the stolen gas to defeat the forces. Price and Garrick found Farah and Alex barely alive, and took them back to base to talk with Laswell.

Price, Garrick, Farah and Alex were given executive authority on stopping The Wolf, The Butcher and Hadir. Price, Garrick, and his team secured The Wolf's compound, and learned that he was underground, and went to that location with Farah and Alex. Despite being separated from the group, Farah and Alex killed The Wolf, and secured the bomb that was attached to him. Due to the chemicals not being found, the United States labeled Farah's group as threat, angering Price, who threatened to hang Colonel Norris with his moppets (unit) for this action.

Price argued with Laswell about either warning Moscow or letting the attack, as Hadir was now working with the Al-Qatala to launch a terrorist attack on Russia. Price offered his own plan, a "black" operation to capture both The Butcher and Hadir, with the help of FSB contacts and Nikolai, and let Garrick help him on the operation (telling Laswell that he was ready). In St. Petersburg, Price and Garrick managed to link with Nikolai, and succeeded in capturing The Butcher despite the target causing massive destruction along the way. Taking The Butcher to a secret warehouse, Price interrogated him, but ordered Garrick to bring him the "package". The package was revealed to be The Butcher's wife and son, and Price was able to get information.

When leaving St. Petersburg, Price and Garrick had a conversation on when stop crossing the line, with the captain responding that it was up to him, and reassured the sergeant that sometimes you have to get dirty to keep the world clean. Afterward, Price asked Garrick was he out, but the sergeant stated that he wasn't, much to Price's approval. After learning that Hadir moved to Barkov's personal estate in Moldova, Price provided over watch for Garrick when they searched the estate. When Garrick found information and the location of Hadir, Price moved to the main house, and secured Hadir before escaping Barkov's forces.

After securing Hadir and the plans to Barkov's chemical factory in Georgia, Price and Garrick learned that the US complied to avert a diplomatic crisis by having Hadir answer for his crimes. Angered, Price agreed to give Hadir to the U.S., but kept the intel on the gas factory. Bravo Six recruited Alex, Farah, and Farah's forces to help destroy Barkov's factory, and Price gave the plans to Farah as a peace gesture (as he believed that a militia with no ties to the West could assault the factory). The team were assisted by Laswell and Nikolai during the assault on the gas factory, and the team divided with Price and Garrick advancing on the pipelines, while Farah and Alex advanced to the furnace.

Price and Garrick succeeded in planting their explosives, while Alex chose to sacrifice himself to plant the explosives in the furnace because of the damaged detonator. Farah then succeeded in killing Barkov for his crimes, as Price, Garrick, and their forces escaping from the plant as it exploded.

Forming Task Force 141[]

Kate Laswell: What are you calling this task force?
John Price: 1-4-1.
~ Laswell and Price on his task force.

Afterward, Russian disowned General Barkov and his forces, and Price asked General Shepherd for personal files on serval individuals who are special forces. Laswell met with Price to discuss the files, with Price wanting to create a task force to tie up loose ends, and stop terror cells across the globe. Laswell was at first reluctant, as she didn't want to fund a group that would be "outlaws", but agreed when Price threatened to walk out.

Laswell agreed to fund the task force as Viktor Zakhaev wanted Barkov's influence and position, implying that he wants to destroy the West. Price recruited Garrick, who was nickname "Gaz", SAS operator John "Soap" MacTavish, and Simon "Ghost" Riley, and named his task force - 141. Not long after, Price and Nikolai were informed that a new individual had taken control over the Al-Qatala, and has gained new resources to transform the group into an army. FSB contact Kamarov informed the group that the West and Russia will cooperate to take down the new threat, and Price, Nikolai, Laswell, and Kamarov gathered their operatives to stop the Al-Qatala.

Verdansk[]

You're a dead man, Zakhaev...
~ Captain Price to Victor Zakhaev.

Following the Al-Qatala's success in releasing a toxic gas in Verdansk, Task Force 141 operative Ghost is sent to the city to stop the Armistice soldiers form fighting each other. Seeing the situation getting worse, Price informs Ghost that Victor Zakhaev was behind the attack on Verdansk, wanting to disband Armistice and obtain the Soviet bunkers there. Price then sends "Alex" to assist Ghost, but later conducts an operation alongside Garrick to prevent the situation from getting worse. In addition, Price gives intel to Nikolai and Farah, who are sent to the subway systems in Verdansk after learning that Zakhaev is moving weapons through the metro.

Price and his allies then planed an operation to stop Zakhaev, as they learned that Victor is planning to launch an ICBM missile at the hidden silo at Bunker 10. Price infiltrated the bunker while Farah, "Alex", and Demon Dogs launched an assault against Zakhaev's forces to create a diversion. Captain Price confronted Zakhaev, and threw him off of the bunker to the bottom of the silo to his presumed death. After aborting the ICBM missile with the launch codes, Price regrouped with Garrick, Farah, "Alex", and Nikolai and received a call from Soap that to meet him off the coast of Verdansk.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II[]

To cutting heads off snakes...
~ Captain Price to Laswell on stopping Hassan Zyani.

In October of 2022, Price and Gaz are performing an operation in Amsterdam tracking the Al-Qatala's cell there, and are contacted by Laswell. She informs them that Ghost and Soap discovered that Quds Force Major Hassan Zyani has American ballistic missiles, and ask the two operatives to see if they could find any intel on Hassan's dealing with the terrorist organizatin. The two find a cell phone and learn that the Al-Qatala are working with the Las Almas Cartel, and after capturing a high-valued target with Laswell, learn that Zyani is being smuggled by the cartel into the states. Laswell then contacts Los Vaqueros Colonel Alejandro Vargas and his second-in-command Rodolfo Parra to stop Zyani, but they are unable to due to him having the support of the cartel.

As Ghost and Soap work with Los Vaqueros and Shadow Company to capture Hassan, Price, Gaz and Laswell travel to Spain to learn of Hassans' dealing after hacking into his phone. During the operation, Price and Gaz don't find any signs of the missile, and Kate is kidnapped by the Al-Qatala. Contacting Shepherd to explain the situation, the general tells them that he cannot send in the calvary, but allows them to do what they can to get her back. Price then contacts Farah and Nikolai to help them rescue Laswell, and save the CIA officer. Some time later, the captain is contacted by Laswell to find Soap and Ghost in Las Almas, and they assist their allies, Vargas and his men in escaping from Shadow Company following their betrayal.

Speaking with Laswell, she reveals that the American ballistic missiles were illegally transported to the Middle East by Shepherd and Shadow Company's commander Phillip Graves, but they were stolen by the Russian private military company Konni. The general and Graves then covered up the failed operation, and betrayed their allies since they didn't want the truth to be exposed. Captain Price confronts the general over his actions, and threatens to deal with him once Hassan was stopped. Knowing that can't get support from outside the region, John forms JTF - Ghost Team with Los Vaqueros to help them retake their base and eliminate Graves. During the assault, Price obtains a helicopter and provides support until Graves shoots down its down.

After retaking the base and Graves is killed by Soap, the team interrogate the cartel's leader Valeria Garza for the last missiles' location. She reveals that the missile is in Chicago, with Zyani being smuggled into the states in his intent to get revenge on the west for General Ghorbrani's assassination. Price allows Alejandro and Rodolfo to take Valeria to the Mexican authority but Price and his team will be back for what Valeria did. Infiltrating a building in Chicago with the MARSOC marines, Price is wounded by Hassan and his soldiers, but Soap is able to destroy the launched missile as Ghost eliminates the major. Following the operation, Price and 141 meet with Laswell, who explains that they need to focus on stopping the Ultranationalists new leader, whom the captain identifies as Makarov.

Atomgrad[]

You'll only make things worse, Hadir.
~ Captain Price to Hadir Karim.

A month later, Price is contacted by Laswell of Alex's disappearance in the Sattiq Mountains, having lost contact with him and three fighters when they entered an abandoned facility. Wanting to know of their whereabouts, Laswell sends Price, Gaz and Farah to find them and perform a reconnaissance of the bunker. During their investigation, they discover the corpses of the rebel fighters, but Alex's location remains unknown. Moments after finding the bodies, they uncover an ICBM missile within the facility, fearing if there's a warhead inside. Despite their discovery, the trio continue their search for Alex to retrieve any information from the operative. Finding him locked inside, Alex explains that Hadir has become commander of the Al-Qatala, and left him alive to give Farah a message - to either join him or walk away.

With Hadir becoming a threat, Price, Farah and Alex pursue in the facility as Gaz returns to the surface to contact Laswell and the ULF. The trio encounter Hadir and are forced to surrender, as Karim explains his plans to use the ICBM to target Russia and protect Urzikstan. Managing to escape from Hadir's soldiers, the group eliminate him and attempt to learn of the new threat he mentions before dying. Following Hadir's death, Price, Farah and Alex reunite with Gaz above as the ULF contain the nuke.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III[]

I shoulda killed him when we had the chance.
~ Price to Soap on their encounter with Makarov in 2019.

While preparing for an assignment in 2023, Price is informed by Laswell that Makarov was broken out of prison, promoting the captain to reassign his task force to focus on the terrorist leader. The team are assigned with stopping Konni, a private military company under the command of Makarov, from taking over a nuclear power plant in Urzikstan. The task force learn that Konni traveled there to obtain chemicals left by Barkov's Forces, and succeeded in doing so as Price is nearly killed when trying to stop them. Despite failing to stop Konni, the group learn that Farah placed trackers on missiles stolen by Konni, allowing Laswell to track them down to an abandoned complex in the region. While the others infiltrate the complex, Price works with Karim and learns of her dealing with Phillip Graves, whom survived 141's attempt to eliminate him at the Los Vaqueros base.

Once reaching the complex, the group learn that Konni is preparing to launch missiles at the Arklov Peak Military Base, which Laswell and Nikolai are currently infiltrating. Price and Farah managed to stop one of the missiles, but Ghost, Gaz and Soap fail to stop the remaining, prompting the captain to contact Laswell. Afterward, Soap and Ghost are tasked with interrogating Makarov's financer Milena Romanova for information at her estate. She gives them intel on Konni's safehouse in St. Petersburg, Price and Gaz assault the base and capture Vladimir's right-hand Andrei Nolan. Despite Nolan refusing to betray his commander, the team gather information on Makarov preparing to transport cargo to an abandoned prison in Siberia.

141 and Farah intercept the transport by ambushing them underwater, discovering the cargo was General Shepherd, much to Price's chagrin. While reluctant in taking the general with them, the group learn from Shepherd that he has information about Makarov's plans if they get him out of Siberia. Meeting with Laswell, the team give Shepherd the ultimatum - give them the intel on Makarov in exchange that tells Congress the truth or be left to die. Shepherd agrees to the former, revealing Makarov plans to flood the Gora Dam to kill its citizens. While Ghost and Soap stop the destruction of the dam, Price and his team join forces with the ULF and Shadow Company to commence an assault at one of Konni's bases.

Following the success of the attack, Price and the team watch Shepherd and Graves speak to Congress for questioning, seeing them turn on each other on the Las Almas incident. Still believing Makarov is alive following the assault, Price leads the team to London and has Soap and Gaz stalk a Konni contact. The two gather intel that Makarov obtained a flash drive that allows him to control the train network, and 141 joins forces with the Metropolitan Police Service to stop the destruction of the Channel Tunnel. When finding a bomb in the tunnels, Price and Soap are ambushed by Makarov, whom kills the sergeant during the struggle. As reinforcements attack, Makarov escapes as Price manages to defuse the bomb before it detonates.

After the operation, Price, Ghost and Gaz spread Soap's ashes off a cliff in Scotland to honor their fallen teammate. Following the memorial, the captain travels to the United States and with the assistance of Laswell, confronts Shepherd in his office. He then kills the general for his betrayal, leaving his office to continue his hunt for Makarov.

Trivia[]

  • He is similar to the original John Price:
    • Both wear bonnie hats.
    • Both smoke cigars.
    • Both participated in the attempted assassination of Imran Zakhaev.
    • Both have signature weapons (the original was the M4A1, and this version is the Kilo 141).
    • Both are field commanders of Task Force 141.
    • Both have a close bond with a recruit (John "Soap" MacTavish in the original series, and Kyle Garrick in this series).
    • Both are owed a favor from Kamarov.
    • Both of their archnemesis are Vladimir Makarov.
    • Both of them lost Soap who were killed by Makarov.
    • After Soap died, both of them became bitter and seeking revenge on Makarov.
    • Both of them killed General Shepherd for his betrayal (although Soap (from the original Modern Warfare timeline) killed Shepherd).
  • This incarnation is younger than his original counterpart and express more of his emotions to his allies, notably talking to Kyle after interrogating The Butcher.
  • Despite being advertised and appearing on the game's cover art, he isn't the main protagonist of the story, as this goes to Alex, Farah Karim, and Kyle Garrick.
  • Though playable in Mobile, he is merely an outfit for the original Captain Price.
  • Price met Laswell in the football game in London (the Premier League). But he doesn't like bothering to watch football as well reminding Laswell it is football, not soccer since it is not in America.
