John Shaft was the man who took down mobsters and criminals in the 1971 movie Shaft, and its first sequel, Shaft's Big Score, and an illegal smuggling gangster of immigrants in Shaft in Africa.

He was portrayed by the late Richard Roundtree.

Shaft[]

He is tasked to find a gangster's daughter - Bumpy Jonas' daughter, Marcy. When a the daughter of a wealthy mobster, who is the antagonist, is taken hostage by the mob, John assembles the ultimate plot to take out the mob. It goes successfully.

Shaft's Big Score[]

In this one, John investigates the bombing of a friend named Cal Asby. He digs deeper and finds out Johnny Kelly might be involved. He goes throughout Queens investigating the murder, until he finds out that Mascola was behind it.

Shaft in Africa[]

In this one, he's tasked with taking down a slavery ring. A group of Africans take John somewhere in Queens where he will train. He is put in a hot room - thanks to intense lighting, where they test his endurance against dessert conditions. He then goes out and we meet the the Emier and Colonel Gonder, who is a European Police member - as in police of the European Union, which Holland was a founding member of. He informs him that his mission is to find the crimne boss behind the slavery ring, who is revealed to be by the name of Amafi. To do this he must become a slave. However, when certain opposition somehow finds out who he is, his cover is blown, forcing him to shoot some of Amafi's men. He then fights an enforcer who kills his dog. Aboard a ship full of slaves, he shoots many of the captains. He succeeds in taking down Amafi, and then goes on the plane back to New York where he meets Aleme and they kiss.
