Jokester is the heroic Earth-3 counterpart of the Joker from DC Comics (prior to the events of Flashpoint) and arch-nemesis of Owlman. He is also the father of Teen Titans heroine Duela Dent.
History[]
Origins and Early Life[]
Jackie was an unfortunate individual who had been constantly bullied and abused for much of his life until he eventually found happiness with a woman named Evelyn Dent, whose kindness made all his troubles seem insignificant in comparison. Unfortunately, their relationship did not last as Evelyn went missing one day when she began to develop split personalities. Acting on advice Eve gave him one night, Jackie became a comedian at the Last Laugh comedy club where he struggled to garner much of an audience. Despite this, the manager Mikey kept him on at the club and suggested that his act needed a gimmick to play off. Suddenly, Owlman crashed through a club window and began brutalising Mikey for not paying him to protect his establishment. The display of violence Jackie witnessed inspired him to ridicule Owlman and his sidekick Talon as part of his performance which, in a few years, became a big enough hit to launch the hapless comedian into stardom.
His rise to fame was assisted by his talent manager Harleen Quinzel who expressed concern that Owlman would one day retaliate for all the jokes at his expense. Jackie did not seem to worried about any consequences as he believed it was all in good fun until Owlman ambushed them in their limousine, murdering Harleen and mutilating Jackie's face by slicing open the corners of his mouth. Jackie was taken to hospital where the news of Harleen's demise drove him to madness, laughing hysterically as he tore off the bandages wrapped around his head to reveal he now had a ghoulish grin on his face. From that moment on, Jackie opposed Owlman as a heroic vigilante called the Jokester and obsessively tormented him while treating their conflicts as one big joke.
Incarnations[]
Due to various cosmic events that have altered the multiverse, alternate versions of Jokester have existed at one point or another. After the events of Flashpoint, another vigilante known as Joker would oppose Owlman and represents the chaos and disorder to Owlman's organised crime. He is later killed by Owlman. During the events of Infinite Frontier, a vigilante called Jester would combat Owlman alongside his universe's version of the Red Hood, Harleen Quinzel. Unfortunately, he too would be murdered by Owlman, but the Red Hood would continue to fight against Owlman and the Crime Syndicate.
