Jolanne de Valcourt is the female protagonist of the Arnaud Sélignac's 2001 TV series French adventures/romance, Rani.

She is portrayed by French-Chinese actress Mylène Jampanoï.

History

In the eighteenth century, in 1743, Jolanne de Valcourt, a beautiful young woman, unassuming and sensual, is the girl born out of wedlock of the old Marquis Charles de Valcourt, who nevertheless recognized her. Philippe de Valcourt, Jolanne's half-brother, murdered his father, then spoiled his half-sister by making him take responsibility for another murder and a crime of high treason that he himself committed.

Jolanne manages to escape and joins a gang of robbers. Arrested, sentenced to death, she manages to escape execution by pretending to be a woman sentenced to deportation to the colonies. Marked with the fleur-de-lys of the condemned and sent to the French Indies, she was auctioned off at a house of prostitution, which she quickly succeeded in being named as the owner to reform the very strict regulation.
