~ Jolene |
Jolene is a supporting character in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. She is a female toad that worked for Grubba in Glitzville. She first appears at the very beginning of Chapter 3, in Grubba's office. She leads Mario and his Partners to their locker room and then leaves. By talking to Bandy Andy, Mario can discover that occasionally, Jolene had been seen going into places (bathrooms and such), but never coming back out.
The truth is Jolene is working under Grubba in order to find out what happened to her brother, Prince Mush. Long suspecting Grubba had something to do with his disappearance, she became his secretary to advance her investigation. After Grubba's defeat and the return of her brother, she remains at the Glitz Pit, now operating as its owner and promoter.
Personality[]
Jolene is often harsh and stern and often comes across as blunt and downright rude. However, she is very selfless and cares about others. Also, her inner character is much more tender than her cold exterior and she reveals the underlying love she has for others. She is very astute as a businesswoman who can think analytically, shown when she discovered Grubba's plan to serve her well as the new owner of the Glitz Pit arena.
History[]
Its history is a long troubled one. Prince Mush, the former Glitz Pit Champion, Jolene's younger brother, left home to fight in the arena for money to provide for his poor family. One day Mush discovers Grubba's plans and "disappears". Jolene applied on the job to find him and discovered Grubba's energy drain machine. She had almost given up hope until Mario and his companions arrived in search of the Crystal Star; after their arrival, she secretly guided them (by sending l33t-style emails to Mario under the guise of "X") to discover the secrets of the Sfarzo Pit and ultimately Grubba's plans. After Mario defeats Macho Grubba, Jolene questions her brother's whereabouts and after they reveal her fate and that he was brought back from an unknown location, Jolene reconciles with Mush.
Later, she took over as head of the Sfarzo Pit in Grubba's place. She appears to be friends with Toodles, as suggested by one of the problems Mario can solve. Toodles wants her wrestling magazine back, which Jolene borrowed from her. Jolene also has trouble at the Trouble Center, which involves disposing of all the trash in the storage room by giving it to Goomfrey, who she has contacted. She says she couldn't stand the smell of garbage and tells Mario to put it somewhere where he can't see it anymore.
When Jolene isn't at work, she can be found at the Glitzville juice bar and she can be recognized. When X tells Mario to get the Super Hammer from Podler in an email, the "Jolene" is not present.
