Joshua Rosfield is the deuteragonist of the 2023 action role-playing high fantasy video game, Final Fantasy XVI. He is the second born son of Archduke Elwin Rosfield, the younger brother of Clive Rosfield and the Dominant of Phoenix, the Warden of Fire.
He is voiced by Logan Hannan as a child and by Jonathan Case as an adult in English and by Natsumi Fujiwara as a child and by Takeo Otsuka as an adult.
History[]
Joshua is Clive's younger brother, second son of the Duke of Rosaria and the Dominant of Phoenix. Sickly and meek compared to his brother, he is reluctant to fulfil his role as Dominant. Upon seeing his nation attacked and his father killed in front of him, Joshua awakens as Phoenix, attacking indiscriminately until Ifrit manifests and apparently kills him.
In reality, the Phoenix revived him, and he learned of Ultima, seeking to prevent Clive becoming his pawn, going as far as sealing away a piece of Ultima when he first attacks Clive. He first allies with Dion, then reunites with Clive and his allies for the final battle against Ultima.
He is mortally wounded when Ultima retrieves the piece he trapped and sacrifices himself to give Clive the Phoenix's power. Joshua's fate is left ambiguous after Clive heals his wounds using Ultima's absorbed powers, but in a post-credits' scene, a book titled Final Fantasy is shown bearing his name.
