Joyride is a character in the Transformers franchise. The name was used in both Generation One and the Unicron Trilogy.
History[]
Generation One[]
Joyride first appeared in Issue #41 of the Marvel US comic as part of Fortress Maximus' crew on the Steelhaven. He, Getaway and Slapdash were left behind as a skeleton crew when most of the Autobots gathered to witness a duel between Grimlock and Blaster on the moon's service. When the Decepticons attacked, Goldbug took charge of the Steelhaven and ordered the crew to fly to Nebulos, in the hope of using the resources to rebuild Optimus Prime. In the following issue, they discovered the planet's fuel reserves had been poisoned to keep Transformers away but went ahead with their plan, as well as trying to defend the planet from Decepticon Powermasters Dreadwing and Darkwing. Nebulan scientist HiQ agreed to help most of the Autobots undergo the Powermaster process as well, becoming their engines, with Joyride being paired with one of HiQ's assistants, Hotwire. They eventually defeated the Decepticons.
After a brief stop-off at the Cosmic Carnival in Issue #44, Joyride next appeared in the UK-exclusive story "Cold Comfort and Joy", when he and the other Powermasters accompanied Optimus Prime down to Earth. Investigating a report of chaos at a town celebrating Christmas and assuming Decepticons were involved, Joyride, Getaway and Slapdash attacked the culprits only to learn it was Sandstorm, Broadside and Inferno, who had panicked the townspeople by accident.
Joyride made a number of appearances in the UK annuals. He and the other Powermasters tried to retrieve a fuel cell from a crashed Dreadwing in "Dreadwing Down" and stopped an attempt by Scorponok to kill Optimus Prime with an intelligent bomb in "Prime Bomb". In "Trigger-Happy", he and Getaway searched for the AWOL Backstreet.
He finally reappeared in the main comic in Issue #66 among the Autobots battling Thunderwing. He was seen relaxing with the other Powermasters in the aftermath of the battle in Issue #69. He made his last appearance in Issue #75, during the attack on Cybertron by Unicron. Optimus Prime ordered him, Waverider and Quake to concentrate fire on Unicron's foot, but Joyride was destroyed by one of Unicron's eye blasts.
Unicron Trilogy[]
The name Joyride has been assigned to a character in the Transformers: Cybertron cartoon. She was voiced by Nicole Oliver, who also voiced Princess Celestia in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Princess Ashlyn in Barbie in the Twelve Dancing Princesses and the Sorceress in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
Introduced in the episode "Search", Joyride was one of the Autobot refugees who had taken refuge on Earth, taking on the disguise of a motorbike. On learning the Autobots were searching for the Omega Lock, she recognised the Atlantis Pattern and rushed to alert the Autobots. She came under attack from Thundercracker but was rescued by Optimus Prime and the Autobots and passed her information on to them.
She continued to make occasional appearances, at one point delaying Megatron while humans were evacuated. She last appeared in "Family", welcoming Mudflap back to the Autobots.
