Julius Novachrono is one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Lemiel Silvamillion Clover) in the Black Clover franchise.
He is the 28th Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom, as well as the former Captain of the Grey Deer (before the squad was renamed to Aqua Deer when Rill Boismortier took over). Due to his strength as well as his selfless nature, he's extremely popular with the common folk and the Magic Knight squadrons, with several wishing for him to be the actual king of the Clover Kingdom.
He is later revealed to have the same body as the 4th Zogratis sibling Lucius Zogratis, and that his time magic was originally a power of Astaroth before being purified inside Lucius.
He is voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa in the Japanese dub and Robert McCollum in the English dub.
Appearance[]
Julius was a tall, middle aged man with purple eyes and short, blond hair. One of his distinguishing characteristics is a blue, six-pointed star located on the left side of his forehead, which vanishes upon his passing.
He wears jeans and a shirt with similar colors and patterns. The white shirt features a high collar with a black fur cuff and elaborate gold and purple embroidery around the edges. The garment also features long sleeves with light purple cuffs that contain black fur and patterns that resemble them. Each sleeve also features two gold ring-shaped decorations on the top and bottom. Julius's brown slacks go well with a matching pair of high boots.
Julius physically regresses to his 13-year-old self after using his stored time to resurrect himself. His hair is longer and shaggier, and he is significantly shorter. To emphasize his tiny stature, he dresses in scaled-down replicas of his prior outfits. His hair is still scruffy six months later. He is dressed in a light-colored pair of shorts, a dark-colored jacket with a high collar and embellishment along the center seam, and a collared cape that falls down to his knees and fastens around his neck with a simple chain.
Personality[]
Given his love for exploring the realm to look for magic he has never seen before, Julius is well known to have an infatuation with magic. His innocent demeanor usually surfaced when he was introduced to a new kind of magic and became enthralled with its demonstration. Julius even goes so far as to disguise himself in order to carry out his hunt without the populace recognizing him.
In spite of this, Julius is an extremely intelligent man with deep expertise in magic and social dynamics. This is shown when he acknowledges the artifact that Yuno discovered in a dungeon and when he clarifies for Asta and him the significance of becoming a Wizard King. Furthermore, despite of Asta and Yuno's social standing, Julius treats them the same as he would the other Knights, demonstrating his disregard for social hierarchy.
Biography[]
Several years ago, Julius travelled to Clover Kingdom from an unknown far-away land in his desire to see rare and unique magic. Eventually, Julius gets accepted by the then-captain of Grey Deer and joined it, rising to the ranks of Captain himself.
Some time later, Julius met a young Yami Sukehiro and was impressed by his display of Dark Magic, giving him a place in Grey Deer, also similarly encouraging William Vangeance, a noble scorned by his humble lineage and his scarred visage to join his squad, without caring for his scarred features.
Abilities[]
Time Magic: Julius possesses Time Magic, which allows him to steal time from his enemies for his usage, increasing pages on his infinite grimoire. He can use it to stop time, trap enemies in stasis, as well as reverse time over an entire kingdom. This power is unique due to it being native to a Devil.
