Flash: I mean, this guy's probably fought hundreds of thousands of other super-beings on the other planets he's destroyed, right? And we have to assume that he's won. Batman: I don't care how many demons he's fought in how many hells. He's never fought us. Not us united.

~ Flash and Batman on Steppenwolf
The Justice League are the main protagonists of the DC Extended Universe. They serve as stalwart protectors of life, dedicated to protecting the world as the first line of defense against terrestrial, extraterrestrial, inter-dimensional and supernatural threats.
Founded by Batman and Wonder Woman following the death of Superman by the hands of the Kryptonian monstrosity Doomsday, the Justice League was formed when the New God known as Steppenwolf invaded Earth with his army of Parademons.
The Justice League was formed by Batman and Wonder Woman after the events in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice where Superman died after he defeated Doomsday. The team consists of a humanoid alien hailed as a god among men posing as a journalist, a ninja vigilante detective who runs a multi-billion dollar corporation, a princess/demigoddess from a secluded island who fought in World War I and poses as an antique collector and art restorer, the prince of Atlantis and protector of the oceans doubling as helper of a remote Icelandic village, a laid-back scientist with super-speed and a a football player and scientist who became part-machine. They are united by a common purpose to save the Earth from world-ending threats such as Steppenwolf or Darkseid.
Unlike most versions of the Justice League, this roster is only made up of six members.
This is the only Justice League that doesn't have a few many members.
Superman, Cyborg and Wonder Woman are the only members of the Justice League with their 1 parent alive. The Flash only lost his mother, but his father has been imprisoned since his childhood, and Batman's parents were murdered when he was 9. Superman is also an odd exception, as he's lost both his biological parents, though he was adopted by the Kents. While Aquaman is the only member of the team having both parents alive.
However in the Snyder Cut, Cyborg's father; Silas Stone died by sacrificing using the lasers from the Mother Box.
In the Snyder cut of Justice League, they do indeed take the team name of "Justice League" for themselves, as evidenced by their destroyed headquarters shown in the Knightmare future. However, the Whedon cut never mentions the name, or any name for the team.
