KITT (Knight Industuries Two Thousand) is a protagonist robot from the popular 1980s TV show Knight Rider. It is the artificial intelligence of the autonomous car with whom Michael Knight (portrayed by David Hasselhoff) is partnered. KITT. was designed by the late Wilton Knight, a brilliant but eccentric billionaire and founder of the Foundation for Law and Government (F.L.A.G). KITT is voiced by William Daniels.
Personality and traits[]
KITT is based on the 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am where it was created & modified by Knight Industries for a defenseless car. Its main cybernetic processor was first installed in a mainframe computer used by the US government in Washington, D.C. However, Wilton saw better use for "him" in the Foundation's crime-fighting crusade and eventually the system was installed in the vehicle. KITT was in fact the second vehicle built by Knight Industries with artificial intelligence, the first being K.A.R.R (Knight Automated Roving Robot), KITT’s evil prototype relative (first voiced by Peter Cullen, the voice of the iconic Transformers character Optimus Prime, and later Paul Frees).
