Kaeya Alberich is a supporting playable character in the 2020 action role-playing fantasy video game Genshin Impact and a major character in its accompanying prequel manhua series of the same name.
He is the Cavalry Captain and Quartermaster of the Knights of Favonius. He is the descendant of the Abyss Order's founder, Clothar Alberich, and was left in Mondstadt as the "last hope" of Kheanri'ah. In the manga he is an anti-hero who both assists and opposes the protagonists.
Kaeya Alberich is voiced by Sun Ye in Chinese, Kohsuke Toriumi in Japanese, Jeong Joo-won in Korean, and Josey Montana McCoy in English.
Biography
Kaeya was originally abandoned by his Khaenri'ahn father during a storm in Mondstadt. Crepus Ragnvindr, owner of the Dawn Winery, found Kaeya and took him in. Kaeya was raised by Crepus alongside Crepus' son Diluc, whom became Kaeya's adopted brother. Kaeya was left behind as Kheanri'ah so-called "last hope," but quickly became attached to the Ragnvindrs, who had loved and cared for him more than the father who abandoned him. On Diluc's 18th birthday, Crepus was mercy-killed after a delusion's power backfired on him. His death reawakened Kaeya's conflicted feelings towards his origins, causing him to confess to Diluc his true origin as a Khaenri'ahn. This confession was not met well and Diluc lashed out, attacking Kaeya and nearly blinding him. When their blades met, Kaeya's Vision appeared and the subsequent elemental reaction stunned them into stopping the fight. After this, Diluc left Mondstadt, leaving Kaeya to inherit his role as Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius. Three years later, Grand Master Varka embarked on a long expedition, effectively stripping Kaeya of his cavalry but leaving him in Mondstadt. Upon Diluc's return, the two have a strained but improving relationship. Kaeya works as the quartermaster for the Knights of Favonius and has a wide network of informants. He is seen as Jean's right-hand man and is admired by the elderly of Mondstadt as the ideal grandson-in-law.
Personality
Kaeya is intelligent and crafty, using clever but often underhanded tactics to trick his way to victory. While he generally enjoys teasing others and messing with them to get the reactions out of them for his own amusement, he doesn't let it interfere with his job. On the contrary, his craftiness is one of his strongest attributes, making him able to acquire important information from albeit backdoor methods. He appears to have a façade put up when socializing with the general public, which he often uses to his advantage. While he is normally willing to resort to more extreme and ruthless measures than the rest of the Knights, his intentions are still as noble at heart, and he is well respected and trusted. He's also adept at manipulating situations to his favor by using the wants and desires of his enemies against them.
