Kafka's monstrous strength in his Kaiju form

Kafka Hibino is the titular main protagonist of the science fiction manga/anime series Kaiju No. 8. He initially works as a member of the Monster Sweeper Inc, but his life changed when he obtained the power to transmute himself into a kaiju after one just infiltrated into him, granting him the power to shapeshift into the creature.
For many years, he has dreamed of joining the Defense Force after making a deal with his childhood friend Mina Ashiro. However, with unsuccess, he never achieved his dream while Mina achieved prosperity within the organization and thrived to be a captain through the years.
He is voiced by Masaya Fukunishi and by Megumi Han as a child in Japanese and by Nazeeh Tarsha in English.
Appearance[]
Kafka is an adult man in his early 30s with spiky short black hair and double eyebrows. He is first seen in the coverall of Monster Sweeper Inc. with a visor on his head and the organization's logo on his left chest, while initially working for the company.
As a member of the Third Division, he is in the officer uniform which is a dark green color with grey pads covering his shoulders, wrist, and legs.
As a Kaiju, Kafka's body is covered by dark grey carapaces and scales all over while emitting glowing cyan features between his muscles, such as his feet, arms, hands, and abdomen. The back of his neck gains spiky features. His face is now concealed by a skull-like mask filled with small fangs and also emits glowing eyes of cyan colors.
In situations where he loses control in his Kaiju form, Kafka's size greatly increase, including his shoulders, and arm horns. The appearance of his face becomes more monstrous with even more razor-sharp fangs at the side of his mouth.
Personality[]
Kafka is hard-working as a worker at Monster Sweeper Inc, despite frequently complaining and training to run away from responsibilities, as noted by his peers. He is expressionful in reaction to the tasks that he is been handled like when he was ordered to take charge of a Kaiju's intestine. He easily gets irritated after interacting with Reno Ichikawa about his reason for giving up on the Defence Force where Reno cut him midway as he spoke that it is not like he wants to understand his reason. He gets disappointed while thinking about how he always appears pathetic no matter the way he replies to others.

Kafka can also be seen as carefree while working, often making jokes and expressing gratitude to Reno upon hearing him stating how he appeared discouraged while explaining why he gave up, showing that he exhibits a remarkable level of kindness towards others, even prior to deciding to become a member of the Defense Force. He is quick to act upon witnessing a sudden attack from a Kaiju that appeared in a flash from behind Reno, where he manages to push his new comrade away just in time from the jaw of the colossal monster. Despite being older than most Defense Force Members, he conducts himself as a relatively more mischevious and expressive individual. He also easily gets emotional, as shown in the temporal success of he and his division's triumph against Kaiju No. 9, burst down in tears. However, when the team noticed that No. 9 had one last attack to unleash, Kafka did not hesitate to switch into his Kaiju form in front of everyone to push away Kaiju No. 9's bomb away from the city they were in, knowing that he would face grave consequence due to being a kaiju from the Defense Force.
Powers and Abilities[]
A mysterious insect-like kaiju with wings infiltrated into Kafka's body by entering his mouth, granting him the power to shapeshift into a humanoid kaiju and superhuman prowess that he eventually gains more progresses to further control on navigating his newfound powers.
Natural Abilties[]
- High Reflexes: At the start of the series, Kafka was quick enough to rush over to save Reno by pushing him away from a Kaiju that appeared from behind out of the blue regardless of how relaxed he was.
Hybrid Kaiju Physiology[]
- Kaiju Transformation: Kaiju has displayed the ability to turn almost any part of his body into his kaiju form. This can even go to further ghastly features such as additional body parts like head, legs, and tentacles anywhere on him and even form weaponries on his tongue, allowing him to grasp from far away objects and intentionally harm living beings around him, as shown when he devoured a crow outside the control of his new powers to his confusion. The great advantage of this ability can be displayed when he managed to generate a mouth filled with sharp teeth to seize the blade of Soshiro Hoshina.
- Immense Strength: Even earlier when Kafka first transformed into his Kaiju form, he is capable of effortlessly obliterating a great portion of a hospital's wall with a mere push and punch a Kaiju several blocks away.
- Gigantification: If Kafka's kaiju powers overpower him and take over his body, his overall size will grow larger in seconds, attaining a height of at least a house.
- Immense Durability: With his scales, Kafka is able to at least remain intact if he is struck by regular blades that are not enhanced by kaiju cells. He is vulnerable against Soshiro blades that swiftly cut through his arms.
- Enhanced Senses: Kafka can detect the presence of other incoming Kaijus from many miles away, including those underground.
Trivia[]
- Kafka's last name, "Hibino", contains the kanji for sun, ratio, and field.
- Kafka is 32 year old when he joined the Defense Force, just one year less than the permitted age of the organization: 33-year-old.
