The scars are gone. The degeneration is gone. But for the first time in my life... I'm not dying. For the first time in my life, I realize I don't have to be the man I see in the mirror. I may not be able to forget my past... But I can be someone better. For the first time in my life... I'm alive.
~ Kaine Parker.
My name is Kaine. They're calling me Scarlet Spider now. Another man's name... a better man. But I'm trying.
~ Kaine Parker.

Kaine Parker, also known as the Scarlet Spider, is a major character in the Spider-Man franchise.

He was the first clone of Peter Parker created by the mad scientist Miles Warren (also known as the Jackal), but suffered deformities until he was cured and became the second Scarlet Spider to atone for his sins.

He was created by Terry Kavanagh and Steven Butler, and first appeared in Web of Spider-Man #119 in October of 1994.

History[]

Kaine was the first clone of Spider-Man created by Jackal to take him down but suffered deformities so he was rejected and replaced by Ben Riley. Vengeful for this, Kaine took up a costume he made and went after anyone who gets in his way. He first kills Doctor Octopus and later gets into fights with Ben Riley over who is the real peter parker. He would later come into conflict with the original peter parker fighting him as well. After the death of Ben Riely Kaine would go on to atone for his sins but was dying and during the events of spider-island he was cured and become the second scarlet spider to honnor be. He would have his own adventures and would later gain the other's powers. He would later team up with the spiders across the multiverse to fight against the Inheritors and even killed solus at that time. Kaine would team up with peter to fight against his revived brother Ben who went mad after jackal's torture pushed him into the edge.

During Ben Riley's villain phase Kaine would apparently be killed off at one point.

Biography[]

Creation[]

Kaine was created in a laboratory by the mad scientist Miles Warren, who was attempting to clone Peter Parker, a superhero who was bitten by a radioactive spider when he was young. Miles, also known by his villainous persona, the Jackal, initially saw Kaine as a success in being the first clone of Parker, but soon learned of his creation becoming deformed due to the process. Instead of killing him, Warren decided to keep Kaine alive to see how long he could live, resulting in the clone suffering from more deformities and becoming unstable. Despite being deformed, it amplified Kaine's abilities, gifting him the Mark of Kaine and precognition, which is believed to be an amplified version of spider-sense.

Tormenting Ben Reilly[]

Warren went on to create another clone, Ben Reilly, and used his creation to fight against Parker until he and a clone of Warren were nearly killed. Unbeknownst to the scientist, Norman Osborn had files on Ben, and switched them so Miles believed that Peter was the clone. Kaine got a hold of the file and believed that Ben was Peter, and started to stalk his clone, whom had left New York when learning of his origins. While in Salt Lake City, Kaine found love in Louise Kennedy, a corrupt police officer whom he murdered upon learning of her betrayal. Continuing his stalking, Miles' creation wanted to give Peter (whom he still believed to be the clone) a normal life he couldn't have, and tormented Reilly on numerous occasions.

When Reilly returned to New York, Kaine continued to stalk him, and when having a precognition of someone killing Mary Jane, decided to kill anyone who could potentially do so. Due to his incrimination, Peter was accused of Louise's murder and was sent to jail, but Ben traded places with him to allow his template prove his innocence. Kaine battled Peter when he refused to admit to his crimes, and were briefly brought to a mock trial created by Judas Traveller. At some point, Kaine explained his plan to give his fellow clone a normal life, and ultimately admitted to his crimes when Peter threatened to reveal his true identity.

Later on, Kaine learned that Peter joined forces with Warren after being falsely told that he was the clone, with Seward Trainer altering the results. Kaine decided to intervene, but was manipulated by his creator into believing that his deformities could be cured. He soon discovered that his creator lied to him, and spoke with Mary Jane, who gave him the will to return to Peter and Ben to fight against their clones. Kaine then sacrificed himself in saving Warren from his fellow clone, Spidercide, but was able to regenerate when the Jackal placed him in a pod.

Return[]

Kaine was brought back by James Johnsmeyer, who wanted him to compete in the Great Game, but he refused and escaped after battling the Rhino. However, he changed his mind when he learned that Shannon, a woman he partnered with, was on Johnsmeyer's payroll, and decided to take down the contestants. At some point, he saved Ben from a burning diner, and turned himself after acknowledging his fellow clone as his brother. He was taken to the vault, but escaped months later to stop Norman Osborn, but was later manipulated by Raptor into believing he found a cure in exchange of fighting Spider-Man.

When Alyosha and Ana Kravinoff attacked Spider-Man, Kaine decided to switch places, ultimately dying from his wounds. He then returned during the Grim Hunt, being revived by Warren and mutated into the Tarantula. He was used to participate in the Spider-Island event, but was saved by Spider-Man, being put into a tank of a cure that freed him of Warren's control, but also re-stabilized his DNA and made him look more like his template.

Becoming Scarlet Spider[]

Once his DNA was stabilized, Kaine earned enough money to go to Mexico, where he adopted a scarlet suit to fight against villains, earning him the the moniker of "Araña Escarlata" (the Scarlet Spider). He then went on numerous adventures, such as helping Agent Venom fight against Carnage, and joining the Spider-Army to deal with the Inheritors.

Powers and Abilities[]

Kaine being a clone of Peter Parker has super human strength, speed, stamina, durability, agility, and the ability to crawl on walls. He can also shoot organic webbings after fusing with the other.
