Do you wish for a new world?
~ Kakeru Kamisato's most famous quote and World Rejecter's activation phrase.
It’s true I didn’t gain this power because I wanted it. If I could rid myself of it now, I would. And I do need to pay a visit to the Magic Gods who forced it onto me. But that doesn’t mean I can abandon someone who needs help.
~ Kakeru Kamisato.

Kakeru Kamisato is a major character in the A Certain Magical Index franchise.

He is a mysterious high school boy and who arrived at Academy City looking to eliminate all Magic Gods. He's actually responsible of the disappearances of almost all members of True Gremlin, having "exiled" them from the world using an unique power residing in his right hand called World Rejecter.

He is voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka.

Appearance[]

Kakeru is an ordinary young man with brown hair and eyes, and normally wears a school uniform consisting of a white formal shirt with a red, yellow, and blue striped tie, a blue jacket buttoned by two gold buttons and grey trousers.

Personality[]

Kakeru is a pessimistic and stubborn person who describes himself as a "normal high school boy who you could find anywhere". He has an inflexible view of himself as an ordinary individual whose average or below in everything, not being able to get affections of girls or survive any supernatural events.

Due to his own perception of himself as just normal, Kakeru despises the Magic Gods for indirectly giving him the World Rejecter and forcing him to be a hero. As such, Kakeru seeks to take revenge on the Gods, hunting them down and banishing them to the New World. He also dislike the idea of having a harem of beautiful girls because he believes that the Kamisato Faction only follows him around because of the World Rejecter's power, even though many of them had feelings towards him before he gained his power.

Unlike Touma, who would try to find a solution where everyone is happy, Kakeru is extremely pragmatic and will often sacrifice one person to save another instead of searching for a more positive alternative. He's also quite ruthless and is more than willing to inflict lethal injuries on his opponents or hold people hostage.

However, like Touma, Kakeru possesses a keen sense of justice and shares Touma's intolerance of injustice. He's normally affable to others, though he can be quite snarky and blunt. Kakeru is compassionate and selfless, as he won't hesitate to help others in need, such as Patricia Birdway. Even though he hates the World Rejecter, Kakeru is willing to make use of it when it come to achieving his goals. He is also very protective of the Kamisato Faction and deeply cares about them.

Kakeru tends to project his own views of similarity or difference onto the world around him, disregarding others opionons and views in the process. When he learns of Touma's similar powers, Kakeru automatically assumes that Touma wants to be normal just like him and would join him in his quest to get revenge on the beings who empowered them. He is thrown for a loop when Touma reveals his dedication to helping and protecting people.

Biography[]

Prior to obtaining the World Rejecter, Kakeru was truly an ordinary high school boy who lived in an unnamed town outside of Academy City.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • World Rejecter: A mysterious power that resides in Kakeru's right hand, apparently granted to him by the Magic Gods of True Gremlin when they grew disappointed in Touma Kamijou. World Rejecter allows Kakeru to banish anything from existence under certain conditions, from living beings to inanimate items. It can also eliminate things like celestial objects or an entire universe. To activate World Rejecter, Kakeru often says its trigger phrase, "Do you wish for a new world?", as shown when Yuiitsu Kihara stole the ability but couldn't use it until she used the phrase, but Kakeru himself has been shown to be able to use the ability freely by merely moving his right hand. The main condition for World Rejecter's power is that it's targets must have conflicting desires and a wavering heart. As such, it doesn't work on people who are completely satisfied with their lives. It also works on anything created by those with conflicting desires. This includes attacks or weapons, even if the creators are not the ones using those weapons.
    • New World: World Rejecter often relocates its targets to an unused region within the world's timeline and fills those who are banished by it with hope, joy and relief to even those who attempt to resist it, thus rejecting the current one and supplying the illusion of an ideal world that will let them throw out the old one. When it was used by Kakeru, it allowed him to "exile" the magic gods to their "ideal" type of world. Because of this, Kakeru describes their exile as their "salvation". This means that entities banished through World Rejecter are unlikely to return once banished, even if able to, because it is unlikely for them to be willing to leave their ideal utopia.

Abilities[]

  • Keen Intellect: Kakeru has proven to be quite smart and perceptive, being capable of engineering a situation that forced Patricia Birdway into revealing the truth of her problem after sealing off all options except for her sitting idly by as he saved her. He is rather cunning, as he was able to ambush and subdue Touma Kamijou with his faction and placed him in checkmate by cutting him off at every turn. Kakeru is also highly observant, as he's able realize he had been led into a trap by Aleister Crowley from a small detail. While he is an amateur fighter that makes up his inexperience through World Rejecter, he's still capable of crafting plans to easily defeat Elements using his wits and the resources found in a mall.
  • Skilled Combatant: Kakeru is shown to be be rather capable in hand-to-hand combat. He is able to match Touma Kamijou during their clash and even managed to overpower Motoharu Tsuchimikado, albiet with the help of the Kamisato Faction. He also was able to go toe to toe with Noukan Kihara, using his World Rejecter to erase Noukan's attacks which included guided missiles, laser beams and plasma cannons. He also stabbed Touma with a pen.
