Kaname Ohgi is a supporting protagonist in the anime series Code Geass. He is the leader of a Japanese resistance cell, having taken over after the death of Kallen Kozuki's older brother, Naoto. After joining the Black Knights, Ohgi gains the position of Deputy Commander and following the restructure becomes the General Secretary. At the end of the series, he becomes Prime Minister of the United States of Japan, as well as the husband of Villetta Nu.

He is voiced by Mitsuaki Madono in the Japanese version of the anime and Kirk Thornton in the English version.

Personality

Ohgi is initially seen as the leader of a Japanese resistance group. However, he admits that leading a resistance group is not one of his strong points and that he prefers to teach, having previously been a teacher. Nevertheless, most of his positions in the Black Knights involve him being higher up in command and usually includes leadership. He deeply cares for the Japanese people, especially his comrades as well as even caring for a Britannian, Villetta Nu, after she was injured by Shirley Fenette. His pride for the Japanese people is seen throughout the series and during the initial announcement for the Special Administrative Zone of Japan, he was one of the few who considered it. However, after the massacre, he is enraged to the point where the Britannians are seen as evil.

At first, Ohgi greatly trusted Zero and defended him when the other Black Knights had doubts. However, upon learning of Lelouch's identity and Geass power, Ohgi became outraged and denounced Zero, telling the others that Zero had been using them as pawns. He made a deal with Schneizel to betray Zero in exchange for Japan, and used Kallen as bait to draw Lelouch into an ambush. He attempted to execute Lelouch, while also threatening to shoot Kallen for questioning them, but Lelouch escaped with Rolo's help. Ohgi then decided to lie that Zero had been killed in battle, and arrogantly claimed Zero was disposable and the Black Knights didn't need him anymore. However, this was proven wrong when Lelouch resurfaced and claimed the throne of Britannia. Believing Lelouch was now the enemy of the world, Ohgi and the Black Knights reluctantly agreed to aid Schneizel in order to take him down.

Trivia

• In the anime, it's not clear if he regretted betraying Zero. However, the compilation film (which is set in an alternate continuity) shows that he was remorseful after Lelouch's death and even considered suicide before Lelouch forgave him for it.
