Kanne is a major character in the adventurer fantasy 2020 manga series and 2023 anime series Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. She is introduced as one of the participants of the First-Class Mage Exam, alongside her best friend, Lawine, who were both placed as partners with an elven mage, Frieren.
She is voiced by Azumi Waki in Japanese and by Madeleine Morris in English.
Appearance[]
Kanne is an early-teenage girl of short-height with orange hair, usually tied in two ponytails on both sides of her head and eyes of the same color. While she participated in the mage exam, she wore a white cold shoulder crop top with short frilling sleeves at her upper arms. Her shoulder and forest green borders for the part of her cloth revealing her shoulders, cleavage, and near her abdomen. She also wears a pale green-colored short with attached with a white belt and a pair of knee-high boots. Her staff is a long straight staff grey trident-like staff.
Personality[]
Kanne is a free-spirited and dynamic young girl who has great socializing skills and cooperates casually with Frieren and other exam candidates. She can notably be seen loudly engaging in a conflict with Lawine, regardless of being best friends. Their unpleasant interactions and fights usually start with one taunting the other, while also because of certain disagreements. Nevertheless, she exhibits insecurity, particularly when she was initially compelled to practice her flight magic. Accordingly, she admits herself that she has higher potential of thriving under positive feedback from others, a trait that Lawine suggests may stem from being overly indulged by her parents during her upbringing. According to Lawine's observations, despite Kanne's timid nature, she diligently applies herself, works diligently when unobserved, and shows concern over others' well being.
Background[]
Accordingly, Lawine stated that Kanne has gotten excessive attention from her parents while they were raising their daughter. They have been close companions since childhood. At one point, Kanne enrolled in the Academy of Magic alongside Lawine. While she was in a lesson to use flight magic, Kanne was shocked with fright, remaining there as others thrived in the assessment. It was Lawine decided to be by her side to face her fear by trying to boost her spirits with kind words. However, when Kanne felt uneasy about one of the compliments, Lawine gently kicked her off the cliff, making her fall almost fall into the body of water below. However, this unintentionally encouraged Kanne to use her flight magic, demonstrating Lawine's consistent support for her.
