Kannin is the overarching protagonist of the AMC series Into the Badlands.

She is one of the lost children of Azra, being one of the few survivors after the city was destroyed by the Black Lotus. After the cult tracked her down, Magnus brainwashed her into becoming a remorseless killer and weapon against other Dark Ones. She eventually escapes this brainwashing after being reunited with her brother Sunny, and begins fighting to protect the Badlands.

She was portrayed by Eugenia Yuan. As a child, she was portrayed by Ella Bleu Kiely.

Personality

Kannin is a very protective individual over those who are close to her, and often having incredibly accurate insight into both the Gift and the world as a whole. This can best be seen in her brief interaction with Cressida, where she persuaded her to look deeper into Pilgrim's future and see how destructive he had become. Due to her being brainwashed for years by Magnus, she was fiercely loyal to the Black Lotus and their goal to erradicate Dark Ones. However, he love for Sunny was strong enough to finally break her out of Magnus' control and abandon the Black Lotus. She initially could not bring herself to kill Magnus due to having followed him for so many years, but eventually does overpower and kill him when he is fighting with Sunny, albeit breaking down into tears afterwards. With Magnus gone, she took over the Black Lotus and steered them into a better direction, now fighting to protect the world from the threat of Pilgrim and other destructive Dark Ones, rather than being needlessly cruel. She is shown to be a rather spiritual person, giving Sunny a funeral and wishing him a peaceful existence in the afterlife.

Powers & Abilities

• The Gift: Kannin possesses an exceptionally powerful Gift, a benefit of being a child born in Azra. Her Gift prompts Magnus to brainwash her into a weapon for the Black Lotus, as her powers combined with the Black Lotus' special methods makes her extremely capable of taking down other Dark Ones.
  • Gift Deactivation: Kannin was able to lock Sunny's Gift inside of his mind as a child, and uses pressure point deactivation in order to turn off the Gift when fighting other Dark Ones.
• Martial Arts/Swordsmanship: Kannin shows immense skill in combat, using a combination of the Badlands fighting style and the specialized techniques utilized by the Black Lotus. After Pilgrim removes her Gift, she continues to fight with great proficiency, being able to defeat Magnus in combat and take down multiple Dark Ones during the final battle for the Badlands.
• Leadership: Kannin eventually takes over as the new leader of the Black Lotus after the death of Magnus, being the primary leader of the invasion against Pilgrim's Dark One army.
