Kaoru Sayama is the deuteragonist of Sega's 2006 beat 'em up video game Yakuza 2, and its 2017 remake Yakuza Kiwami 2, as well as a recurring character in Yakuza 3 and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
She was the lead detective of the Osaka Prefectural Police's Sotenbori District Organized Crime Division, who then moved to America to join a training program for the Metropolitan Police. After Kiryu's presumed death and the Great Dissolution, she then returned to Japan to prevent yakuza or any organized crimes from being back in action.
She was first voiced by Yu Daiki, and then by Aya Hisakawa in the remake and later installments. In the English dub, she was voiced by Minae Noji.
Appearance[]
In the original PS2 version, Sayama has a black hair pulled back in a messy, low bun. In the Kiwami remake, her hair sticks out in a ponytail-like style. She also has a small but notable beauty mark under her lip. Ryuji also said she heavily takes after their late mother.
In Yakuza 2/Kiwami 2, she wears a formal black suit, common for a detective, over a white dress shirt. She also wears a silver chain necklace with an amethyst pendant around her neck. In Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, she changed her outfit style, this time, she wears a gray-ish suit over a navy blue sweater.
Personality[]
Sayama is an extremely determinated and intelligent person, who always wanted to seek truths, especially about her parents. She is also determined in terms of catching criminals, therefore, she earned the name "Yakuza Huntress" for famously catching many yakuza members who wanted to harm innocents. Despite her hostility towards Kiryu at first because he was a former yakuza, she eventually learned that he was nothing like them and they got along, and eventually together defeated the villains.
Despite her tough appearance for professional purposes, she was actually a caring person who selflessly helped many other people. For instance, when Makoto Date informed her about Kiryu's presumed "death", she was shocked and returned to Kamurocho to talk to him.
Abilities[]
Sayama is an experienced and experted police officer who had many skills to catch criminals, ranging from basic combat to weapon mastery, she is sometimes seen using wooden katana to intimidate her enemies. She is also a sharpshooter who managed to shoot the fake Kazuki quickly before the latter attempted to kill other people. She is also known to be an expert in cybersecurity, as she quickly decrypted The Florist's database from the enemies' hackers.
