~ The soldier upon seeing Eren Yeager’s Founding Titan. |
The Karifa Artillery Soldier is a minor and brief character in the manga and anime Attack on Titan. He is a Marleyan soldier that was located in the town Karifa in Marley's northeastern coast, being a member of the ground unit. The soldier is one of many to be used as the second line of defense in order to prevent the Wall Titans from committing the Rumbling.
Appearance[]
The Soldier appeared to be a middle aged man and of average height, with short blonde hair in the anime, which was darker in the manga. He had a refined jawline and notable cheekbones, as well as having dark yellow eyes. He wore the standard Marleyan army uniform and helmet.
Personality[]
The Soldier appeared to be notably tensed regarding the dire situation he was put under. Being placed with heavy responsibility by the rest of the Marleyan Military, and he decided to flee in terror after noticing the lack of power they were able to inflict on the Wall Titans. His fear only being worsened after seeing Eren’s Founding Titan.
Story[]
Past[]
All of the man’s past is unknown, only that he was a Marleyan soldier. It is unknown however if he was even a Marleyan citizen to begin with or if he was forcibly conscripted like many other people from nations that Marley conquered. The man would nevertheless be positioned at the Marleyan town and military navy port, Karifa.
War for Paradis Arc[]
After Eren Yeager successfully took control of the Founding Titan, he activated the Rumbling, causing all the Titans inside the Walls of Paradis Island to start marching towards the outside world in order to completely wipe out all terrestrial life on the rest of the planet.
The Artillery Soldier would be placed with numerous others on the docks in Karifa, while the Global Allied Fleet acted as the main line of defense. It was shown to be futile, as the Fleet was overpowered by the Wall Titan’s superior numbers. This Soldier could only watch in terror as the fleet flew up in the air by the steam generated from the Wall Titans, and came crashing down in a sea of explosions, heavily damaging the morale of him and his comrades. They notice the Wall Titans approaching from the sea and begin marching towards them. They fire artillery shells at the giants which appeared to be completely unsuccessful. The soldier looks in hopelessness and decides to abandon his post, including all other soldiers. He keeps running in order to escape the Rumbling, but as he looks back, a frightening view crosses him. Out of the steam, a large skeletal figure looms towards him and his comrades. The Soldier quickly assumes who it is, which is proven right by his fellow soldiers, as it’s the Attack Titan leading his lesser Colossal Titans to destroy everything in their path, with the Soldier and his companions helplessly watching in horror.
The man would presumably continue to try and escape from the marching Wall Titans, but would eventually be crushed in the Rumbling.
Trivia[]
- Altough his death wasn’t shown. He was confirmed to be deceased in the compendium, Attack on Titan Character Encyclopedia FINAL.
- Despite being a very minor character, he acts as a parallel to the opening of the story, as Eren, Armin, and Mikasa, looked in terror when the Colossal Titan loomed over Shiganshina District. This soldier would be used as an ironic extension, looking in terror as Eren is now the destructive force who leads many Colossal Titans.
