Karino Shuka is the deuteragonist in the anime and manga series Darwin's Game. She is a crucial member of the clan Sunset Ravens, and a good friend of the leader of the clan, Sudou Kaname, whom she's also in love with.
She was voiced Reina Ueda in Japanese and Alexis Tipton in English.
Appearance[]
Karino Shuka is a short beautiful teenage woman, with light skin, crimson eyes, and extremely long, blond hair, with two strands dangling partially in front of her face, and two strands winded up and tied in pigtails to either side of her temple with red bows. She's almost always seen wearing a thin, dark red dress, which is massive on the bottom, long, dark brown stockings, that completely covers her legs, dipping deep underneath of her skirt, and light brown shoes on her feet.
Personality[]
Shuka is a very friendly and outgoing person but can turn into a bloodthirsty and deadly person when necessary. She isn't afraid of death as she even told Xuelan that people she shouldn't have been born if she was afraid to die. When she met Kaname, she became interested in him due to his rookie status and battled him which resulted in him winning but still sparing her, which she accepted her defeat gracefully. She later falls in love with Kaname and will do anything he says and is extremely loyal to him, going so far as to sever the hand of a student who attempted to flirt with her or to any other man who even attempts to touch her.
She started out as a Social Darwinist believing that only the strong survive but this began to change after being defeated by Kaname as he was weak at the time but managed to be skilled and still beat her. Shuka is still cautious of her opponents or to people she doesn't understand as she kept a keen eye on Rein who was always calm even in dangerous situations but came to accept her later on after getting to know her. She even asked Rein advice on how to prevent Kaname from falling in love with other girls, not fully seeing that Kaname only wants her.
Trivia[]
- It's implied she has lived off the winnings of her fights in Darwin's Game against players who attack her; since she lost her parents and took Sudou to a hotel to recuperate
- Her sigil (special power granted by the game) is called Queen of Thorns. It allows her to telekenetically control ropes, chains, strings and the like; so long as it is a long snake-like object. Hence why she fights with chains attached to spears.
