Karna is a supporting character in Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys.

Appearance[]

She is a woman with short brown hair and brown eyes.

Biography[]

She is first seen when two Romun soldiers attempt to drag her off on the grounds of them finding her suspicious. She breaks free telling them she just got lost. When the soldiers suspect Adol to be an accomplice, she knocks them both down. She tells Adol that the village of Arieda is down the mountain pass. She tells him that it’s dangerous to remain here.

She then leaves believing she will meet Adol again. After Adol gets captured by the Romun military and his cleria gear gets confiscated, she helps him and Duren escape. She explains to Duren she didn’t come to save him, she came to save Adol. When Adol and Duren take two sets of armor, an alarm gets triggered and when the three get to the back entrance, Duren runs off leading to Adol and Karna having to dispatch the soldiers who arrived.

After escaping, she shows Adol the pass to the forest where he will find Arieda Village, but warns him about the demons roaming around. She then leaves for the village. When Adol gets there, she stops three of her comrades from attacking Adol as he is a friend with no ties to the Romun Empire.

Meeting Karna at her home, she explains to Adol that Celceta has been overrun by demons which made things pretty bad for it as it used to be a peaceful and quiet place that traded with Promalock. This died down when the demons attacked Celceta two years back.

Having listened in on Adol’s talk with the mayor, she considers such a request to a stranger like him rather selfish and didn’t want him involved as the demon in the mine could not be defeated, but if Adol saved Esteria, he could defeat the demon as well. She tells him not to trouble himself so much.

After Adol defeats a cursed Lemnos, Karna comes to his side, Lemnos explains they must protect Slano’s tomb from the Clan of Darkness. Karna takes the wounded Lemnos back to the village to treat his wounds and warns Adol to be careful on his way out.

Karna takes the wounded Lemnos back to the village to treat his wounds and warns Adol to be careful on his way out. While Lemnos’s wounds are being treated, Karna heads off to the location of Slano’s tomb with Adol catching up.

After entering the Nelgal Lava Pits, Karna and Adol venture within to seek the tomb of Slano, fighting off the demons in their path. When they reach the building housing the tomb, Adol opens the door when Karna couldn’t, leading to their investigation of the tomb. When Adol touches the tombstone, it leads to him being warped to a trial where he fights a suit of armor inhabited by a living fire.

After passing this trial and being granted the fire magic by Slano, Adol heads back to the entrance where he catches up with Karna who is glad to see Adol okay. Just then, they are confronted by Gruda and his two flunkies who were able to enter after Adol opened the door. Gadis, one of the flunkies, demands they fork over the fire magic Adol procured.

Just then Gruda orders Bami to kill the two, Bami melts down part of the wall and turns the melted portions into demons that Adol and Karna deal with easily. Upon returning to the entrance, Bami tries a second attempt at Adol and Karna’s lives when the room vibrates, it forces the three to flee. Karna believes this angered Slano and she and Adol must get out.

After leaving the lava pits, Karna asks Adol to wait while she calls over the dove Ruce with a wind flute who brings her a letter. She informs Adol that he can communicate via Ruce by having him bring letters to him and send them to other people. Upon reading this letter, she learns Lemnos has recovered consciousness. She then gives Adol a Wind Flute before leaving for Arieda.

After Adol learns the last portion of Celceta’s legend, Ruce brings him a letter from Karna that she and her comrades, including a recovered Lemnos, repaired the bridge over the Valley of Lament after Gadis cut it down. The letter also says she and her group will pool their strength to overcome whatever hardship arises and he must not give up.

Karna sends Adol another letter about the Romun fortress’s defenses getting weaker, making it possible to sneak in if someone dresses in their armor. She recalls when he and Duren acquired it after escaping. Later, when Adol is preparing to face Arem, she sends one last letter about a dream about Lefance telling her that a new age will dawn.

Following Arem’s demise, Leeza watches alongside Dogi and Karna as the ancient capital collapses. Just then Adol shows up next to Karna who is relieved to find him safe. She then tells him they must return to the village to give everyone the relief they need.

After a talk from several of the townsfolk, Karna admits to Adol that she cannot thank him enough for what he has done and will try to live life to the fullest.
