Katarina is a supporting protagonist in Season 3 of the Classic series of Doctor Who.
She was portrayed by the late Adrienne Hill. For Big Finish, she was voiced by Ajjaz Awad.
Biography[]
Katarina was the handmaiden of the Trojan priestess Cassandra. She was instructed by Cassandra to keep an eye on Steven Taylor and Vicki, who she suspected were Greek spies. During the Greek attack on Troy, Vicki entrusted Katarina with the job of getting Steven to the safety of the TARDIS when he was injured. The Doctor and Steven took Katarina with them when they fled the planet.
The TARDIS arrived on Kembel in the year 4000, where Katarina was left to look after Steven while the Doctor went out to look for help. The planet turned out to be a Dalek base and Steven and Katarina were taken to safety by the SSS agent Bret Vyon. They resolved to head to Earth to warn them of the Daleks, stealing a Spar spacecraft. The Doctor also managed to steal the Taranium Core needed to power the Daleks' Time Destructor.
The group were forced down by the Daleks onto the prison planet of Desperus. They managed to hold out while they conducted repairs, with Katarina helping the Doctor set up an electric charge that knocked out a pair of convicts who tried to hijack the ship. However, another convict, Kirksen, had stowed away onboard the ship and ended up taking Katarina hostage in the airlock, trying to force the Doctor, Steven and Bret to return the ship to Kembel. Instead, Katarina opened the airlock and flushed both herself and Kirksen out into space, sacrificing herself so the others could continue on their mission.
Trivia[]
- Despite only appearing in two stories, Katarina is considered the first of the Doctor's companions to die.
