Kehaar is a supporting character in the 1972 book Watership Down, it's 1978 film adaption, it's 1999-2001 CITV television series and it's 2018 BBC/Netflix miniseries.

He was voiced by the late Zero Mostel in the 1978 film whilst in the television series, he was voiced by the late Rik Mayall (who also played Richie) in the first and second series and Anthony Jackson in the third series. In the BBC/Netflix series, Kehaar is voiced by Peter Capaldi, who is known for portraying the Twelfth Doctor in the Doctor Who series and also voiced Rabbit in Christopher Robin.

Kehaar is a black-headed seagull who injures his wing, forcing him to take refuge in a burrow at Watership Down. He befriends the rabbits there, who give him food.

As he heals, Kehaar helps the rabbits look for does for the warren as there are only bucks there. He alerts them to Nuthanger Farm where there are four rabbits named Clover, Boxwood, Haystack and Laurel living there. Watership Down's chief rabbit Hazel goes there and releases the rabbits, but only Clover, Boxwood and Haystack are able to escape whilst Laurel is recaptured.

Later in the book, Kehaar discovers another warren called Efrafa. A small group of rabbits are sent to Efrafa to ask for some does. The group later return and reveal that Efrafa is overcrowded and their chief rabbit General Woundwort will not let anyone leave and has everyone got outside to feed at different times. When Bigwig goes undercover at Efrafa, Kehhaar would act as messenger for him.

Later when Bigwig manages to libarate some does along with a buck named Blackavaar from Efrafa, Kehaar helps him keep General Woundwort and his followers at bay whilst the other rabbits escape.

Following this, Kehaar leaves Watership Down for his home in Big Water, but promises to return.
