Kei Karuizawa is one of the tritagonist of the manga, anime and light novel series Classroom of the Elite. She is a student at Advanced Nurturing High School as a student and is considered as one of the leaders of the Class 1-D in her first year.
She is voiced by Ayana Taketatsu in Japanese and Bryn Apprill in English.
Appearance[]
Kei is a blond girl of average height with long hair arriving a her waist that are usually tied in a ponytail. She has blue purple pupils. She often wears a light longs sleeved blue shirt over her red school uniform along with a blue ribbon on her chest. She also wears a short white skirt, a pair of long socks arriving at her calf along with a pair of dark shoes. In addition she sometimes tends to tie her uniform around her waist, wearing only her blue shirt.

Initially she was seen spending most for her free times with her friends and prefers to spend her points on outfits. As the one 'dating' Yōsuke Hirata, she is greatly respected and praised by many students especially among the female classmates as well giving her the role among them. She is a very spoiled, arrogant and careless girl who actually only appears to shows cares for herself. However on in the inside, Kei is actually deeply affected by her harsh past in middle school where she was victim of several harrassments from her classmates. Despite showing a incautious nature, she is actually very acute and cunning of a individual. She thinks that most peoples dislikes her as a person and only gained fame due to her relationship with Hirata and role as a leader among the females. She is also a very attentive girl who knows herself better than anyone. She gained awareness for her surroundings and with those she befriends which made her think that most classmates seems to hate her. Back in middle school she had a strong-willed personality and had a competitive nature which caused her to be harassed by female classmates of similar personalities. When she was having a conversation with Kiyotaka Ayanokoji she was show to be straightforward easy going girl as Kiyotaka being someone who has gained faith from her. With her choices on using her points on clothes, she can be seen to be really into fashions leading her to spend her currency carelessly and extravagantly. Fitting her main interests, Kei doesn’t show much interest in studying causing her to always study for an incoming exam at the last moment as well as not having the objectives to reach a higher class. The main cause for her absence on studying was due to her always going to middle school. In addition she is also very loyal when it comes to anyone she trust or befriends, such as her action when Kiyotaka asks her to do something she was willing to do her best that comes out with better achievements then she could excepted. In large, she is very expressive regarding to someone she has feeling to and has an ubiquity at complaining about whatever bothers her, typically whenever she needs to meet up with Kiyotaka when she is asked by him to.

As a middle school students, Kei was the victim of several cold-blooded bullying actions that occurred at her school. Such as having dirty toilet water poured onto her, items stolen, textbooks ripped and even physically harms her by kicking and punching while filming their horrible actions. Furthermore her shoes were placed with thumbtacks as well as having diseased animals on her desk or even dragging her skirt down in class. Forcing her to confess to male classmates to which she had no interest in. During swimming classes her full swimsuit would be stolen. Her harsh experiences caused her to receive very deadly scars on her body and also losing her senses of her own. In addition she even gained deep PTSD.
After witnessing countless harassments at school, this leads her best in order to make her appear stronger and conceal her weaknesses so that she does’t have to experience the same trauma again. She will go as far to prevent anyone to harass her causing her to display faux arrogance at Nurturing Advanced High School. She is willing hold onto anyone who she trusts, who has a great fame from others in order to protect her own. Showing her a weak individual who needs the help of others. Other classmates would asks for informations for love and affections. Ayanokoji and Ryūen stated that she has very good mental strength. To which she has shown to be able to withstand very cruel and harsh treatments from Ryūen and his group. Her loyalty was still present even at the worst moments where everything seems to be on the opposite side which surprised Ayanokoji.
Abilities[]
Despite having not interest in studying and not the best academic skills, she is able to rival with others if she puts great effort on it. Her cause for being placed in Class-D was mainly due to her lack studying in middle school causing her to score below average grades within her class. Ayanokoji noted that she can make great improvements if she is willing to puts a deep attempt on forcing herself for only a short period of time.

- Kei Karuizawa gained the rank of 8th place in back in 2019, 1st place in 2020 and 2021. 4th place in 2022 and 2nd place 2023 for Takarajimasha's Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!.
- Her first name, "Kei"'s kanji mean benefit and favor (恵). As for her last name, "Karuizawa" have kanjis (恵) "Karu" that signifie "light" and for "zawa" means "pit", "shaft", "mine" or "well"
