Smile, smile!
~ Kengo's catchphrase

Kengo Manaka is the main protagonist of Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga.

A cheerful and optimistic young man with a deep love for nature, Kengo works as a botanist in a peaceful town before discovering his destiny as the human host of Ultraman Trigger. Guided by his motto “Smile, Smile!”, he joins the GUTS-Select team to protect Earth from ancient threats and uncover the mysteries of his true identity as a reincarnation of a Giant of Light.

History[]

Early Life[]

Kengo Manaka was raised in the peaceful town of Mizuno, where he lived a quiet life working as a botanist at the Himari Flower Shop alongside his mother. Though he lived an ordinary human life, Kengo was unknowingly connected to something far greater—his true identity was linked to the ancient giant of light, Ultraman Trigger. He always carried a strong fascination and love for nature, which influenced his peaceful and optimistic outlook on life.

Becoming Ultraman Trigger[]

Kengo's life changed dramatically when monsters known as “Kaiju” and the mysterious Dark Giants began attacking Earth. During one of these events, Kengo encountered the ancient ruins where he awakened the light of Ultraman Trigger within himself. From that moment, he became Trigger's human host, embracing the responsibility to fight for Earth and protect humanity. He also joined the anti-monster defense team GUTS-Select, where he worked as both a field agent and their newest Ultraman.

Connection to the Ancient Past[]

As the story progresses, it is revealed that Kengo is more than just a human host—he is a being known as the “Giant of Light Reincarnated,” directly connected to Trigger’s original form from 30 million years ago. This deeper connection gives him insights and powers that go beyond normal human capabilities, especially in understanding the legacy of the Ultras and their cosmic enemies.

Climax and Resolution[]

Throughout his journey, Kengo faces off against powerful enemies including Carmeara, Darrgon, and Hudram—the Dark Giants. He also allies with other heroes, including Ultraman Z. By the climax of the series, Kengo fulfills his destiny and makes a major decision to leave Earth in order to continue protecting peace in the universe, symbolizing his complete transformation from an ordinary human into a cosmic protector.

Personality[]

Kengo is cheerful, kind-hearted, and deeply compassionate. His optimistic personality makes him naturally likable and inspires those around him. He’s driven by a desire to protect life and nature, often quoting his motto, “Smile, Smile!”—a reflection of his belief in hope and positivity even in the darkest times.

Despite the heavy burden of being Ultraman Trigger, Kengo maintains a humble and down-to-earth demeanor. He forms strong bonds with his GUTS-Select teammates and is always ready to put others before himself. His emotional strength is one of his greatest assets, allowing him to stay resilient in the face of danger and inner conflict.
