Kento Nanami is a supporting character from the manga/anime series Jujutsu Kaisen. He is a grade 1 sorcerer and the mentor of Yuji Itadori. He graduated from Jujutsu High before started working as a salaryman and returned four years later, to resume his career as a jujutsu sorcerer and also became the mentor of Yuji.
In 2006, he lost his best friend, Yu Haibara, and became devastated about his death, which was one of the main reasons why he left being a Jujutsu Sorcerer. Following his deadly encounter with Dagon then Jogo, he was gravely injured where he eventually died at the hand of Mahito during the Shibuya Incident Arc.
He was voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda in Japanese and David Vincent in English.
Appearance[]
Nanami is a tall and thin blonde man with a triangular shaped jawline. Before he restarted working as a jujutsu sorcerer, as a salaryman he wore a navy blue buisness suit with sky blue lines on it, a white dress suit underneath and a red tie covered with white dots.
When he was in Jujutsu High as a student his hairs were a bit longer tossed in the right and wore the standard jujutsu sorcerer black suit.
After returning to Jujutsu High as Yuji’s mentor, he wears a pair of green goggles, a beige suit with a marine blue dress shirt underneath and a similar tie to when he was a salaryman, except it’s yellow covered with black dots and a pair of brown leather shoes. It's also stated that Nanami is what a jujutsu sorcerer supposed to look like.
Personality[]
Nanami is a very wise and reserved kind of man, often appearing so calm and indifferent that he comes off as stoic and aloof. He seems like the kind of person who's too serious about his work, but Nanami just knows how to separate sentimentalism from service. He's blunt and straight to the point in most conversations and doesn't care for impractical optimism or questions left open to interpretation.
Additionally, Nanami is very avid and quick to express his irritation, either on his face and verbally with his words. Nanami is often very impatient. He hates working overtime and is very serious about not going a single minute over what's required of him.
Beneath his tough exterior, Nanami is actually quite amiable and doesn't mind conversations. He's practical and overly serious to an almost comedic point on occasion as well. He claims he only became a jujutsu sorcerer because it's slightly less idiotic than being a salaryman, although in reality, he rejoined because of receiving gratitude of a bakery worker, after he destroyed a curse that was causing her shoulder pain, showing that he wishes to do good for others.
In the role of one of Yuji's mentors, Nanami is a very big contrast to Satoru, who is far more outspoken and easy-going. Yuji and Satoru describe Nanami as "gloomy" and the former didn't believe they would get along at first. Eventually, the two would forge a close bond with one another.
Abilities[]
- Ratio Technique: His cursed technique is Ratio Technique, which allow him to possibly “see” a line ratio divided from three to seven at the spot where he wants to hit his target. He can chose wherever he wants on that line ratio to create a weak spot and cut the part of the opponent where the line is located, like the head, leg, torso or arm. Nanami can also use this technique on lifeless objects.
- Black Flash: Nanami is one of the rare sorcerer that is able to use another technique, Black Flash, which allow him to create a spatial warp when he is impacted with cursed energies within a length of 0.0001% of a second in a physical hit. The attack cause cursed energies to make black energies appear and attacks that are as powerful as a normal hit of 2.5. Nanami is also the record holder of the most backflash before Yuji did.
Equipments[]
- Cleaver Knife: In battles, Nanami will often use his cleaver kitchen knife warped with fabric orned with stain black dots on it.
