Kevin Webster is a fictional character and central protagonist of the ITV British soap opera Coronation Street. He debuted on 19th October 1983 and has since then served as one of the show's longest-serving characters and primary protagonists who became involved in numerous high-profile major storylines over the following decades.

The character is portrayed by Michael Le Vell.

Biography

Kevin Webster first came to Weatherfield in 1983 alongside both his sister Debbie and their father Bill respectively.

Upon settling himself in the street, Kevin got a job at the garage as a well-meaning and hard-working mechanic. It became clear that he does have anger issues but that never stopped him from being respected among the neighbourhood. From then onwards he became friends with local resident Curly Watts and also clashed with his estranged acquaintance Terry Duckworth. Later on when Bill got remarried, Kevin was against it but was convinced to put his feelings aside and attend the wedding by Brian Tilsley. In 1985 Kevin and Terry saved rovers landlady Bet Lynch after Terry's father Jack Duckworth caused a fire by improperly installing a fuse box. Years later local businessman Mike Baldwin offered to set Kevin up in business though this would be a difficult relationship for them as Kevin disliked Baldwin's unethical business practices.

Soon enough, Kevin met a woman named Sally Seddon. They began a relationship after dating for a while, though his landlady Hilda Ogden initially disliked her until she later found out about Sally's troubled upbringing in the past. Eventually Kevin proposed to Sally and they got married; afterwards the pair conceived two daughters together - Sophie and Rosie. However, their marriage was jeopardized in 1998 when Kevin started two-timing on Sally with her friend Natalie Horrocks - whom he had been comforting over the troubles with her son Tony, also his business partner. When Sally found out that Kevin cheated on her with Natalie, she confronted them and attacked Natalie before dumping Kevin.

Over the new few years, Kevin and Sally were estranged from each other. But they gradually reconciled when Kevin supported Sally after she was abused by her boyfriend Greg Kelly. But then Kevin met a woman named Alison Wakefield and they became romantically engaged up to the point where they got married. Soon enough Alison got pregnant and conceived a son named Jake, but her joy with Kevin was short lived when Jake died stillborn. Thereafter she suffered a emotional breakdown and was consumed by grief that she tried snatching newborn Bethany Platt as their new child. Kevin caught up with Alison and convinced her to return Bethany to her family. However, shortly afterwards, Alison committed suicide by running into a lorry as Kevin watched on - leaving him distraught by the circumstances that led up to her death.

In 2001, a year after Alison died, Kevin was jealous when Sally began dating Bethany's adopted grandfather Martin Platt - also one of his closest friends and work colleagues. Kevin tried to sabotage the relationship, slashing his tyres but later accepted the relationship and even let Martin move in when he needed a place to stay. As such he and fellow colleague Tommy Harris both helped Martin rescue his family after they were kidnapped by serial killer Richard Hillman. Not long afterwards, Kevin found himself caught in the middle of Martin and Tommy's fallout over Martin's secret romance with Tommy's 16-year-old daughter Katy Harris. This is turn sparked troubling events in Kevin's conflicted friendships with the pair that ended with Martin leaving the street after Katy killed Tommy before committing suicide weeks later.

By then, Kevin had romantically reunited with Sally and the two got remarried. At the same time Kevin went into business partnership with his best friend Tyrone Dobbs at the garage. Everything was going perfect for Kevin until he ended up having an affair with Tyrone's wife Molly Dobbs behind Sally's back. The result of the affair was the birth of Kevin's son Jack and the death of Molly herself in a devastating tram crash. However, before Molly died, Sally discovered the betrayal and her marriage with Kevin ended permanently. Then at Molly's funeral, Tyrone discovered that Kevin was the person who had the affair with Molly and was also Jack's father. The follow-up of Molly's death and funeral saw Kevin's relationships with both Sally and Tyrone seemingly destroyed beyond repair, but eventually they were able to forgive Kevin for the betrayal. Kevin later supported Tyrone when he was abused by his fiancé Kirsty Soames.

In 2015, Kevin dated Jenny Bradley but she was still struggling with her son's death and ended up kidnapping Jack. Kevin forgave her, understanding it was the result of her mental health issues but still didn't want to get back with her or let her see Jack. It was then Kevin dated Anna Windass and made an enemy of her rapist Pat Phelan, but the relationship ended after Phelan framed Anna framed her for pushing her daughter's boyfriend Seb Franklin off a ladder and the result led to Kevin breaking up with Anna afterwards. Kevin later got into a relationship with Seb's mother Abi Franklin, supporting her through all her hard times such as her struggles with addiction and their conflict with greedy tycoon Ray Crosby. But then Kevin mainly supported Abi when Seb was murdered by high-school student Corey Brent in a hate crime attack.
