~ Khalil to Jonah before he abandoned him. |
Khalil is a minor character from VeggieTales. He first appeared in the first feature film Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie as the deuteragonist. He is an Indian half-worm and half-caterpillar who met Jonah and helped him as his "traveling buddy" on his journey to send God's message to Nineveh. He also approached some Twippo fans at a seafood restaurant.
He is voiced by Tim Hodge.
Appearance[]
He is a blue half worm, half caterpillar.
Personality[]
Khalil is a friendly and gentle animal who is very nice to Jonah. He seems to know Jonah somehow, as he had many things based on Jonah. He aids Jonah to his adventure to Nineveh so Jonah can send God's message to the Ninevites. However, in the end of the film, Khalil abandons Jonah due to his actions of being pathetic.
History[]
Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie[]
After leaving the port, a guilt-stricken Jonah goes below deck to rest where he meets a salesman caterpillar named Khalil, who agrees to go with Jonah to sell his merchandise. The Pirates attempt to reel Jonah back in, but before they can do so, Jonah is swallowed by a giant whale. The pirates attempt to attack the whale using a cannon with cannonballs and a bowling ball as ammo, but the whale merely swallows the ball (which Khalil is hiding in), disgorges Jonah's lifebelt, and swims away.
Inside the whale's stomach, Khalil finds a grieving Jonah and the pair are soon visited by a host of God's angels, who explain that if Jonah repents, God will grant him a second chance. Upon repenting, Jonah and Khalil are spit up onto the shore, where they ride Jonah's camel Reginald to Nineveh. After he sends God's message to the Ninevites, Jonah and Khalil watch Nineveh from a distance in the hot sun. Khalil asks Jonah what they are doing. Jonah, believing God wouldn't really forgive the Ninevites, waited for Him to destroy them. God provides a plant to shade Jonah, only for Khalil to eat a single leaf off the plant, which kills it. Khalil is confused on why Jonah is whining about the plant when it was just a weed. Jonah laments as it was his shade and his "friend", which causes Khalil to be disappointed at him, since he shows compassion for a plant, but not the Ninevites. He then explains that God is compassionate and merciful because He wanted to give everyone a second chance, and that they should do the same. However, Jonah refuses to accept this and states it would be better if he was dead. Seeing how pathetic Jonah was, Khalil, alongside Reginald, abandoned him.
The film ends with a song and the surprise arrival of the tow truck driver, who is none other than Khalil. Jonah, who has since joined Twippo, expresses recognition of him vocally, to which he gestures with a facial expression to reciprocate recognition.
VeggieTales[]
He was then heard to voice Lutfi in the fanciful "flannel-graph" of Saint Patrick, the opening element of the episode Sumo of the Opera. He was also the secondary character in the video Pistachio. He also has a reoccurring role in the "Boyz in the Sink" Silly Songs.
Trivia[]
- He speaks with an Indian accent.
