My name is Wally West... and I need to be the fastest kid alive.
~ Wallace R. West.
I know how you feel, Shade. My whole life I've felt like I was going to screw up. That I wasn't good enough... We all make mistakes, but one of the things the Flash has taught me is that we can fix them.
~ Kid Flash to Shade.
I know what it takes to be a hero. To be a Teen Titan and The Flash's partner. The Flash had already taught me so much about Speed Force. I wish he'd just let me show him.
~ Wally West.

Kid Flash (Wallace Rudolph "Wally" West III) is a fictional character in DC comics and its universe, and is a member of the Flash Family. He was originally introduced as a new interpretation of Wally West as part of the New 52 relaunch, but he was later established as a new character and being the cousin of Wally West II. Both Wally West III and Wally West III are separate characters, but both are named after their great grandfather and Wally West III was later renamed as "Wallace West". He is the partner and sidekick of Barry Allen, and a member of the Teen Titans.

He was created by Van Jensen, Robert Venditti, Ron Frenz and Brett Booth, and first appeared in The Flash Annual # 3 in June of 2014.

In the Arrowverse, he is portrayed by Keiynan Lonsdale.

Background

New 52

Wally West appeared in the Flash #30 five years later from the current time line as an African-American and new backstory. West is shown to be dead five years into the future from a car crash which prompted an older version of Barry Allen to execute his enemies so he can never be late again while looking at a news article about a funeral held for West.

Although speculated that Daniel was the father of Wally since he is shown to be Iris's only other sibling, writer Robert Venditti has since confirmed Iris has another brother who has yet to be seen but is indeed the father of Wally, and Wally himself is now African-American on his mother's side.

In the Flash Annual #3, it is revealed West has a father named Rudolph who abandoned him and his mother when West was a baby and West's mother went missing during the Crime Syndicate's invasion of Earth. West was caught by Barry for painting graffiti on the wall. Iris told Barry to watch West for a while since West looked up to his uncle Daniel, who was the Reverse Flash in this time line.

Biography

Early Life

Wally's origins is complicated, but he was born Wallace Rudolph West III, and shares the name with his older cousin, Wally West II. The cousins were named after their great-grandfather, and Wallace is the son of Daniel West, who hid his true identity from his son, and remained in the child's life as his "uncle" rather than his father. In his youth, Wallace was disobedient and a troublemaker, and his aunt Iris West took him when his mother went missing when the Crime Syndicate came through Central City.

Becoming Kid Flash

Wallace eventually eased out his rebellious nature when he started to idolized Central City's hero, the Flash. He eventually gained a connection to the speed force, giving him super-speed and a future version of himself sent his powers through time to his past self before dying. With his new powers, Wallace attempted to help the Flash and his aunt any way he could. When Dr. Joseph Caver created a "Speed Force Storm", Wally was struck by lightning from it, and made his superpowers more stable.

Wallace began working with Meena Dhawan, a speedster known as "Fast Track", to help him utilize and understand his powers, but Meena was apparently killed by Godspeed. This deeply affected Wallace, and he began looking for a new mentor, and came across the Flash. Wallace worked with the Flash to capture Godspeed, and came under the Flash's wing and took the title, "Kid Flash".

Later on in his career, Kid Flash was abducted by Damian Wayne (known as Robin) and forced to join the Teen Titans to take on the League of Assassins, and decided to stay with the latest incarnation of the team. His time with the team was cut short when he was tricked by Deathstroke into helping him save his son, Grant Wilson, and Slade absorbed his powers. Furious over Wallace's rashness, Robin threw Kid Flash out of the team. As a result, Wallace decided to join forces with Deathstroke and joined his team, Project Defiance.
