Kihara Noukan is a major character in the A Certain Magical Index: New Testament franchise, serving as one of Aleister Crowley closest allies which he can truly trust for the majority of the series.
He is actually a dog who has been granted intelligence by the original seven Kihara's, Though after their death, Noukan sought to carry on their will to live as a true Kihara. Noukan has lived for nearly 80 years and he has deep understanding of what Aleister Crowley is trying to achieve. Noukan is also the mentor of Kihara Yuiitsu whom he taught her many things, most notably to be a true Kihara and surpass all of them, although Yuiitsu cares very deeply for her mentor, her ideology of a "true Kihara" is far different than what Noukan meant. Noukan is also good friends with his former colleague Kihara Kagun.
He is voiced by Sho Hayami in Japanese, who also voiced Sōsuke Aizen from Bleach, as well as Ayanami from 07 Ghost series. Morofushi Takaaki from Detective Conan and Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki from Fairy Tail.

He is a golden retriever with arithmetic circuits externally attached to him. He wears a collar and a backpack with robotic arms built into it.
Personality[]
Kihara Noukan is unlike the rest of his family where they are mad scientist, he does have morals of what is "right" and "wrong". Noukan is one of the few Kiharas to have an understanding of sentimentality and romance, and as such doesn't always take actions that can be dictated by logic and efficiency. And unlike the rest of his family who only care about research, and nothing else, Noukan does care deeply about his student Kihara Yuiitsu, he keeps reminding her not to go too far with her methods. He is also one of the few to have an understanding of the realm outside science which is why Aleister trusts him to such a degree.
Noukan dislikes destruction but is willing to use it when it becomes necessary to do so. He says his dislike for unnecessary destruction is more of a matter with his like and dislike instead of being good and evil. He is aware that he is a horrible individual, and his use of "necessary" destruction gives him a place in the world, perhaps hinting that unlike most Kihara he shows regret with regards to having to stain his hands in the past. Noukan when confronting his enemies usually gives them a warning such as seen when he warned Kamisato for continuing his path of revenge. Noukan has a strong resolve to follow the path that the original Kiharas and their will, intending to live and die in the current world while walking along this path and would never be swayed from it by the 'salvation' offered by ones who can only rely on the supernatural. As such, he lacks the conflicting desires required to be targeted by World Rejecter.
Noukan has warned Aleister numerous times not to lose his humanity, being one of the few whom he trusts. When he was defeated by Kamisato, he told Yuiitsu to be a true Kihara and go beyond a "Kihara" before being put into Cold Sleep by Yuiitsu. He was eventually saved by Heaven Canceller. Noukan also likes to smoke, he becomes disheartened when he sees a no smoking sign.
Background[]
Noukan was granted intelligence by one of the original seven Kiharas and was likely present just as the concept of the "Kihara" was still taking shape. After they died, Noukan resolved to carry on their will as a Kihara. Living for over 80 years, Noukan grew to become an influential member of the Kihara family, the most influential in many different fields. He also formed ties with Aleister Crowley, gained an understanding of the world a step outside science and was given the role of acting as a counter to beings from that realm. In the past, Noukan had conversations with Kihara Kagun, though he had found him difficult to be around due to children interrupting them and try to play with him, in particular Kumokawa Maria. Noukan later took over observing the adult network Kagun had built up to protect children after Kagun's departure from Academy City. Following the incident at Ideal, he visited Shundou Toshizou and gave him a final warning, telling him that the city's ruler wasn't as kind as he was.
At another point, Noukan and Aleister were likely involved in the near-demise and disembodiment of the previous generation's #1 Level 5.

Anti-Art-Attachment: Noukan's primary armament is the Anti-Art Attachment, a Powered Suit which provides him with a wide array of weaponry, on the level of a fortress, and allows him to draw upon Aleister Crowley's power and techniques. Noukan has been described as not just borrowing Aleister's power, acting similar to an elite soldier infiltrating enemy lines to lock onto an airstrike target with a laser sight. Using this connection, Noukan has been able to create a circular territory which displaces water from his vicinity, and deliver Aleister's willpower in a strange form which can kill Magic Gods, ones whom Aleister truly hates. Given Kihara Noukan's role, it is likely that the suit was created for his use alone since he uses the original. He was able to kill the Magic God High Priest thanks to this.

Noukan also holds the power to oppose immortal beings such as Ladylee Tangleroad, Fräulein Kreutune, and Aiwass.
Abilities[]
Human-language conversation: Despite being a dog, Noukan has the intelligence to converse using his golden retriever as well as smoke using his robotic arms.
Superior Intellect: Having had his brain expanded by the original Kiharas, through arithmetic circuits and external attachments fitted to his body, Noukan possesses great intelligence, even among the Kihara Family. He also has an expanded lifespan, having lived over 80 years. His intellect and experience has allowed him to become the most influential member of the Kihara family in many different fields, despite being a dog. He has great wisdom.
Enhanced Senses: As a dog, he has enhanced senses as well well as sense that Aleister has survived the battle against Coronzon conforming his survival.
